That last sentence. Good grief. I bike at DP all the time, and have never experienced that 'pain', snowflake.

I have been to Deception Pass and Anacortes at least 7-8 times but never heard these planes.

You must not have been there when they are flying. You'd know it if they were.

Thanks for the namecalling. How long have you lived there? I've been visiting/hiking there for 30 some years. The planes aren't always practicing and have different flight paths.

Field carrier training schedule is listed below. Anyone who wants facts beyond anecdotes can check the schedule before going and see when/if they are flying: https://whidbeycamanoislands.com/jets-on-whidbey/

But I doubt it's the individual moments of loud that get a few folks riled up. Rather, it's the that fact that it's a permanent situation. They don't want quieter jets. They want all jets off the island. NIMBY
We spent 3 days at Fort Casey state park several weeks ago. The first day they were using the landing strip by Coupeville. LOUD! If we wore earplugs and cranked up the music, it wasn’t so bad. But, we camped there to walk the beaches which was difficult due to the noise. The next two days weren’t as bad. You can find their flight and landing schedule link on the Fort Casey state park website. The next time we winter camp there, we will check out the schedules before making reservations.

And, while we were there, the channel for the ferry landing was being dredged which was a 20 hour per day operation. Fascinating to watch and it will be completed soon.

My grandparents bought waterfront property in 1962 near Coupeville before the escalation in flights. Then, the Viet Nam war began and the noise began. It hasn’t subsided. They used to have a sign by the fighter planes that said:”Pardon our noise. It is the sound of freedom”.

Really, isn't that right under the north to south Sea-Tac vector? Perhaps quieter jets make it better.

"But, we camped there to walk the beaches which was difficult due to the noise." Did the noise make the camping difficult or beach walking difficult? Did they fly after 10pm?

No, this is a thread where an OP is looking for a quiet area. Many people, including me, are pointing out what areas of Island, Sno and Skagit Counties will experience noise from Growler jets. Yes, the noise can be painful when they fly low and shake the ground. You will possibly experience this when you live here long enough if you have good hearing.

Well, when we walk along the beaches there, we enjoy the sound of the waves lapping on the shore. It brings back fond memories of walking along the beach at my grandparents. Just a native PNW thing, I guess. So, yes, the loud noise the first day made for an unpleasant walk. We ate lunch inside our camper and could hear the planes which made communicating impossible. We are early to bed folks so noise until 10pm was irritating. Next time, we will plan to be there when no flights are scheduled for the Coupeville landing strip.m
