Loud rumble of thunder just came out of seemingly nowhere just now, sure was unexpected.

It feels and kind of looks like an October evening. Breezy with temperatures dropping into the 40s. It was generally cloudy today, but there was a glow around sunset. Felt like Halloween.

I'm fine with it. I certainly would like to see more snow and cold, but the weather has been very pleasant since the heat miser went away in early autumn.

All to play for, to get a proper cold spell everything needs to fall into place, but it's looking promising.

Default Springtime in January

Saw the first of the spring flowers and blossoms out already today, presumably not uniquely early but earlier than the norm for this area - certainly the earliest I've ever seen them. I wonder what they'll look like in a week or two if it gets as cold as they say it might?

What does it mean when the AO is forecasted to remain strongly negative but the NAO stays positive? Isn't that an odd combination since they tend to move somewhat similarly.
