That was cute interjecting that comment amongst all the snow comments. That made me giggle. After non-stop snow and bitter cold, I needed that to help with the cabin fever. Thanks

Our snow has sublimated. By the end of the day, mostly bare ground.

Boone, NC had this genius driving around during the ice/snow storm today.

Appalachian State cancelled all classes after noon. That's the 5th time the University has cancelled classes...partially or entirely...this winter. Highly unusual, although only one (Hurricane Sandy) has been a full-day closure.

Most of what fell throughout today was ice pellets, but there's still plenty of snow left from last week.

Interesting. Much of my yard is still covered by snow from previous storms. Must not get a lot of sun.

Got a coating (less than an inch) tonight. Currently 10 F/-12 C. Hard to believe we'll have a low above freezing next week after barely getting into the 20s this week.

Same. This is the most snow I've seen here since early November. Monday's storm missed us entirely, not a single flake. Currently 20°F / -6.7°C.

The grass has gone from green to brown in a matter of days, very ugly, it almost looks like summer 2010, but at least that was due to heat/drought, not teens and twenties.

Only like half an inch fell or so I think. I can still see the grass and sidewalk clearly. It'll probably melt be gone by Monday. Also you're right about snow from a long time ago still laying around and not melting. Some spots in my area haven't been snowless since the December 26th storm, which was exactly a month ago!!! It seems like every time the snow starts to melt and it's nearly gone, BAM more snow arrives. And yes, the areas that still have snow probably get little sunlight, especially considering the sun is still low in the sky.

The sea has a thick enough layer of ice now that ice roads are being opened. Here's a 360° interactive panorama of one. Winter is progressing nicely.

Residents of the Islands must be happy. There is even one on Google maps:
https://maps.google.fr/maps?q=haapsa...326.85,,0,0.74

Here ice roads are a distant dream. It's currently thawing, with 0.2°C at noon.

My January precipitation totals in my back garden weather station are going to be invalid because a large chunk of ice had developed on the tipping bucket mechanism pinning it down to one side so melting snow was just pouring out through one side and not tipping the bucket, and not getting recorded.
