Oh no. GFS shows that the heat sitting in Central Europe is heading guess where? Finland, of course.
And then there's a nasty low now in Newfoundland, and guess where its heading? The UK, of course.
Yeah the heat is gone, and so is the thunderstorm potential. Looks like the second year running with no overhead storms. Only one day with thunder or lightning observed this year so far.
It isn't the gulf stream, it's the Newfoundland low and the fact that we are an island which often excludes us from heatwaves. Even so, it's unusual not to get at least one hot spell each summer. I wouldn't mind a few days of hot temperatures for interest.
I know this isn't the Gulf Stream, but most of the crap we've been getting over the last 6 years has been.
We've never had a great deal of heatwaves like you say, maybe one or two a year, but we've always had temperatures of 25-28C fairly regularly during summer. Not in recent years though.
I just find it extremely depressing. In fact me and the wife have been discussing the possibility of moving to the US or my preference, Brisbane.
A small correction. The Newfoundland low is actually moving to Iceland, but there's another one behind it still forming up and it couldn't possibly move more straight to the UK. This is just bad luck.
The Newfoundland low will bring very cold air to Iceland, even on their standards. They could look at highs of 2-4C.
This is what I was talking about in the unhappy thread:
