Yesterday's bike ride. On Mt. Tom, rainstorm is maybe 25 miles to the west.

Looking east:

Got into town just in time as the sky opened up:

Post-rain sky

Old building trying to Italian?

Looking back at Mt. Tom:

Decided to take a different road than usual, it's on google maps! Not then it turned to this:

Too rough to ride for part of the way:

Only lasted for less than a mile, then became paved again. A country home:

Unusual homes nearby:

says it's from the 1850s, what's with the brick? Used to be a church:

^^ I saw that Warsaw was getting the brunt of it on the Blitzortung map. Was curious as to how it looked like. Pretty impressive I see.

I know your pain. Always take what Google Maps says with a pinch of salt! On another note, I'm jealous of your green grass. Ours is parched. My parents sent me a pic of their garden in Paris and it's the same up there.

Prague photos. Narrow street reminds me of Spain, except for the graffiti:

Tram:

I thought Hummer limos were only found in 'Merica?

ground floor windows with grates aren't just found in New York City:

Construction zone. Didn't really fence it off, you could walk write next to the equipment and people working. If it were the US, they'd have fenced off most of it. Glad they trust people here not to hurt themselves, and not force everyone to make a big detour. Some more road workers doing manual labor rather than with machines (breaking stones with an axe or similar). Maybe labor costs are cheaper there?

drizzly morning:

This street art graffiti may not be safe for work:

Spoiler

Detached houses? Or do these homes have several units? Nice houses but marred by ugly looking fences, don't they know nice neighborhoods should be fenceless and show off their nice yards or gardens?

Coolish out but some sun. gate to an old fortress

Mispelt graffiti, reminds me of certain CD posts. Graffiti writer must have been videotaped.

Is the middle building newer? Or does the balcony make it look newer? If I were a Prague resident, I'd like a spot like this; close to the city center but with a park across the street and on a lightly trafficked street.

Another treeless European street:

close-up of one of the apartment buildings:

Spoiler

Lots of stone paving in Prague, elevated train line:

Nice decor on the tops of these:

Back in that fortress. old cathedral and graveyard:

Spoiler

From the fortress wall. Clouds had rolled in:

Started to rain 15 minutes later, fast change from clear to rainy without any thunderstorms. Evening glow from a tram:

Tram coming out of a cliff:

Continuing:

Spoiler

Bicyclists besides a thoroughly graffitied wall:

some river photos:

another city?

looks festive

new and old building:

intricate:

day was in the low 80s, cooled down by evening to something very comfortable. Next day was hotter, from the top of the belfry:

Central Square was mostly populated by tourists

Some narrow streets in the old city:

Spoiler

overlook:

out towards a park:

Spraying the square with water. To keep it cool? Seems like a waste of water. The stone paved square without any shade seem like a bad design in hot weather. This street is much better. Mid morning, high will in the upper 80s, dewpoints in the 50s and clear blue sky.

Spoiler

who is this guy?

Relief on a cathedral

clear blue sky

Funicular going up:

some more:

Not the exact zoom distance but I think the comparison note is there.

Pin Oaks. I planted them in 2009 they were about 6 feet tall. Each tree was $10.

Today they are over 15 feet tall and providing shade. That's about 2.5 ft a year. Oaks are usually slow to grow but that's pretty decent growth for an oak.

All the moisture around here helps. Never watered manually except maybe the 1st yr if I remember.

Comparison is October 2011 & July 2015 (4 years)

We pay in a lot less sun in the summer than you. I take it abandoned rural roads happen there, too?

Great pics of Prague. Interesting to see all the graffiti - looks like Atlanta has some real competition in that department...lol. In winter, I might do a graffiti photo tour and post it on here - we do have some great urban art.

Did you sense some class resentment - with a small part of the population able to be rich, while many are still quite poor? I've heard that's been a problem in ex-communist countries - with a few "in the know" able to get rich quick, while the masses struggle with limited opportunities and low wages. It'd been better, imo, if these countries could gone a socialist route, to ease the transition for a generation or 2 before going whole hog with wide-open capitalism. Also, were prices pretty reasonable overall - like with meals and attractions?
