I am being asked to travel for work. My normal business hours are from 7:30 until 4.

I normally don't travel as part of my job, but am fine doing so

My problem , is I have to drive 150 miles from my house, to the jobsite, work 8 - 10 hours , BUT THEN DRIVE HOME !!!

is that reasonable ? shouldn't I be allowed a hotel for the night ?

Its about 2.5 hours each way with bathroom and gas stops ....

I think I should be allowed a hotel ?

Ask, I suppose. You'll never know unless you do.

I wouldn't want to stay in a hotel. I much prefer my own bed.

And, I think that it isn't that unreasonable to commute. My daily commute is 90 minutes each way. I worked 12 hour shifts for more than a year straight. (5-6 days per week) So your max day by your calculation was my everyday.

ETA- A gas stop for 150 miles? Seriously? Most people wouldn't even need a bathroom break.

How is your daily three-hour commute relevant to the OP? It's your choice to live at such a distance from your work place. But it clearly is not the OP's.

As you said, it's certainly worth asking the boss, but let's not conflate individual choice to commute long distances regularly with a special work assignment that quite rightly also should provide additional dispensation, such as an overnight hotel stay and mileage reimbursement.

This. And I hope you're getting mileage.

My point was that it creates a 15 hour day. There are people who regularly have a 15 hour day, no overnight stay needed.

I said to ask. You never know until you ask. But, I was also trying to point out that it isn't really that unreasonable of an expectation to expect the OP to return the same day.

It should entitle you to some level of compensation. Check out your company policy, or ask Hr. Many companies have a policy that you are entitled to an overnight if it will involve a workday or 12 hours or more.

Alright, just to clear a few things up. I did ask, a few times, and was told no.

I am being compensated an extra hourly rate, and a per Diem. ...

My question is, do other people usually get a hotel when they travel 150 miles away, or are they expected to drive home when finished ?

You are being compensated an extra hourly rate, and a per Diem. If you want a hotel, you are expected to pay for it out of this money. It is your choice how you spend this money.
