If they can't get your order right, then why do you keep going there? Oh, and here is a hint...you should learn to properly spell "McDonald's" next time. Reminds me of what my old grad school professor once told us...if you can't spell, then nobody will take your argument seriously.

You are showing a narrow field of thought with questions like that.

It's as if Capitalism is a Religion. You do know that the Muslims practiced it well - paid their debts religiously for all the slaves they bought and the women they abused. Now you are asking me if there is a better system then conquering and enslaving the world (because you have more clever weapons builders and more money to build them?)........

The answers to these questions are VERY simple. They involve what is important to US - of course "US" requires a world-view, not a keg of beer.

Just as with a family or business, the GOAL should be the target and how we move toward it is a combination of "systems" such as your "capitalism" or "socialism (military, health care, education).

To ask about a better system is like asking me about a better hammer than the Plumb top of the line. If I have to saw a 2x4, that hammer is a very poor tool.

We operate in a VERY complex society and world and no human being alive can understand it all. Heck, even Mr. Greenspan, at a cost of a couple kisses from the Fiction Writer, wiped away millions of families savings....and he is a smart guy.

To be more specific we use the same techniques that we've used for 1000's of years - noticing what works. In the USA we live the same (or less, in many cases) than other countries yet we spend DOUBLE on health care. We spend on "defense" the same as the next 10 countries combine and yet we seem to have "lost" a lot of wars and - even worse - a lot of integrity.

The better systems has a simple name - intelligence. Efficiency.

BUT, the bigger question is WHO IS THIS GREAT SYSTEM FOR? Well, that's my real point. We should start out with "what are our goals as a country and what do we need to do to be in the top 10 worldwide when it comes to health, happiness, environment, life spans, education, etc.

Then we do what we need to get there. These are not secrets. They have been put into play for thousands of years.

They should pay you $10 - after all, I'd bet they can find someone to do it for that. They should go look at the Indian reservations and other such places. They could find people who live with their parents - who can work for less. We are all getting ripped off because you are getting paid too much.

I'm curious.
If minimum wage was raised by $5 (which is about 50% what it is now), what about all those who are making $15 an hour now with college degrees in entry level specialized positions? They won't get a $7.50/hour raise. They will be making the same as those in positions that do not require special skills or education. Is this fair?
I'm very open to hearing differing opinions without getting into an argument.

What do you think YOU'RE worth?
I'd like this to be an open discussion with no attacks or party-blaming (dems/reps)

In the current economy at about $9-10 an hour as minimum wage, I'd say I'm probably worth $21 an hour.. With a specialized masters and a license to practice therapy. Second year out of school.
I get $60-80 an hour to tutor.

I have to agree with brownbag, if he is climbing buildings for a living and risking his life, to earn $21 an hour, I can see how he'd resent someone working as an order taker making $15.

But why does it matter what someone else is making? Maybe an EMT who saves lives is getting paid less than $21/hr and a paper pusher at the DMV is making more. Daycare workers deal with other people’s little kids all day and keep babies safe for $10/hr. Why bother being resentful? It doesn’t make sense to worry that someone else whom you perceive as doing less work than you makes too high a percentage of what you make. Who says $21 is the gold standard for climbing around on buildings, anyway? What does that have to do with how much Burger King pays?

By the way, do you guys have any idea how common burns are in the fast food industry? If I said I was going to burn your arms for $15 an hour, how many of you would accept that? No, how about $20 an hour. Better incentive?

No problem. I'll just jump into my nifty time machine and start all over again.

Whatever. So who according to you "deserves making a good hourly wage"? n Are you getting ripped? How much do you make an hour and what is your profession?

People look at this situation all wrong. Instead of complaining about what others are making beneath him, he should be complaining about why others are making 3x his amount for doing less work. If he thinks a fast food worker doesn't deserve $15 an hour for simply making burgers, then I must also not deserve $65k a year for doing relatively unexciting, mundane office work such as sending emails and changing numbers in Excel spreadsheets.

The difference is BK must keep prices competitive.

$15 is a wonderful MW for casual dining, as it avoids it via mainly tipped wage staff. So BK raises its price, customer says hey for $2 more now instead of $5 more, I get service, a comfy table, better individually prepped food, and switches to casual dining. BK then lays off staff.
