Just saying the Dutch were a lot less violent and more helpful to locals than the other European powers.
The Dutch were also part of the slave trade and they started apartheid in South Africa. In the province of Aech in Indonesia there was a violent struggle in the 19th century in Aech between the Dutch invaders and the locals.

Regular bookstores here have manga lined up all against the walls here in the malls even in Podunk, PA. I also heard that France is the next largest consumer of Japanese anime/manga in the world. German cultural exports in North America probably amounted to just, probably no more than $100 million, and that is being extremely generous. Japanese stuff makes billions in the US, I honestly think a lot of white people seem to be ignorant, or deny, that Asia has infiltrated more into our countries than we like to admit.
This is depending so much on the person and his/her interests. I've never read an manga, and watched anime only if forced to. I don't like sushi or listen to K-rock/pop, and aren't very interested in the totalitaritan respect-duty-collectivist culture. Neither do I watch weird Japanese porn. I admit Japan is huge in pop culture exports, but that extends only to some cultural qliques, most namely the geek culture. For me personally and most of my friends, Japan has no day-to-day cultural influence. On the other hand, many including me watch Derrick and Bundesliga, drink German beer and listen to Rammstein.

How 'bout Christmas Trees, cars, beer, lots of classical music, numerous philosophers that influenced the way we (in the West) see the world?

No its not less prominent it just doesn't influence how we live our lives.

And you seem to forget that the products are designed and adapted for our country.

The influence of Japan is pervasive.
Well America is really the only country that influences where I live and by a significantly larger margin. The fact that we are quite close to America in a global scale and we have good links strengthens it further.

Well my religion and culture is based on the UK way of life so I don't consider that to be an Asian influence.

The Asians are Muslim and Buddhist.

No Chinese and Indian restaurants here.
I don't know what 'I dunno what to put here' is talking about though. We don't have any French restaurants..

How is Germany's 'cultural outreach' greater than Japan? Japan exports way more pop culture and culture, what German things are even as popular as sushi or anime? Japans trade far exceeds Germany, get real please...
The culture in Germany is not that different from other european or western countries. That's a huge different to Japan. It's very easy to spot japanese culture exports, because they differ from the rest of the world. Japan has an unique selling point when it comes to culture. Germany and most other european countries don't have that, because our culture is part of the western culture. From a japanese, australian or american view you will get in trouble if you want to distinguish between the single cultures in Europe.

Do you really believe that Japan exports more than Germany? Only an Aussie ;-) can believe that. 1,493 Tril USD German Exports vs. 0,697 Tril USD Japanese exports. Germany exports more than double the amount than Japan. When it comes to food, no other country exports more processed food than Germany. Germany is the 5. biggest apparel exporter, short behind Hong Kong, Italy and Bangladesh. Only China is lonely on the top. Japan isn't in the Top 10. Off course we don't sew the apparel, but german companies design them (German Design :-)), contract manufacturing in low cost countries, bring them back to germany and than export them all over the world.

Top 10 Apparel Exporters : ASICentral Team Blog

Germany expots 3 times more food to the US than Japan for example. Germany exports allmost twice the amount to Brasilia than Japan does. For Australia Japan is the second most important trading partner. For Germany Japan comes only on the 15. Japan only exports 20% more to the US than Germany. German exports to the US rose by 95% from 2000 to 2013, japanese exports to the US fell by 5% in the same time. In 2013 we import 30% less from Japan than in 2000. For Germany and for all other european countries trade with Japan is really unimportant.

Most world leading trade fairs are held in Germany. How many important trade fairs are in Japan? Most trade fairs all over the world are organised by german companies.

All over the world you can buy german furniture, famous for there design. At least in europa it is nearly impossible to find american or japanese furniture. Most people in Europe even didn't know how japanese furniture looks like.

German architecture can be found all over the world (Bauhaus). I am sure that you can find more german architecture in Australia than japanese architecture.

Sorry, but come out of your australian bubble ;-) Australia with less than 30 Mil. people is not the center of the world. I know that Japan and japanese culture is important in Australia, East and South-East Asia, but it isn't in other parts of the world.

Its very hard to adapt to an Asian culture because it is totally foreign to us.

Here, Germany, especially Northern Germany has influenced us the last 700 years, while Japanese culture has been on the rise the last 20 years. It takes quite some time to catch up.
