There is much discussion about what are the best meters of more important large countries of Europe and USA.
Some value more any of other things the cleanliness the punctuality and others by more less extension, better service to their cities etc
I think some classic meters today are impaired for bad odors lack of cleanliness or security,crime etc.-
Considering the city has 3 million people, it has the most lines and subway stations per capita than any of those cities mentioned above. It's also a really modern metro, efficient, clean. There is NOT a single place in Madrid that you cannot get to by metro!
NYC metro is old, smells, and not very clean.... plus the air conditioned is terrible, they blast it! (plus the famous rat, roach problem)
London metro is too expensive, and it's very old so the city grew around it rather than the metro growing around the city... as a result the tube is many times located in areas that are not neuralgic to the city and areas which truly need a tube sometimes don't have a the tube nearby.
milan metro is meh... not very large... it's rather basic good for the city size but nothing to write home about
moscow metro has impressive stations but I still like madrid better
paris metro is after madrid the best
my ranking would be:
MADRID : 13 lines covering a greater urban area of 6 million people.
PARIS : 16 lines covering an urban area of 12 million people.
MOSCOW : 12 lines covering an urban area of 12 million people.
NYC : 34 lines if you count the outer boroughs (queens, brooklyn, bronx) covering an area of 22 million people. Tri state
LONDON: 11 lines covering an greater urban area of 13 million people.
MILAN : 4 lines covering a greater urban area of 5 million.
have in mind Madrid is the size of Milan (both much smaller than the other four choices), that shows you how well covered Madrid is when it comes to its metro! Madrid is five times smaller than London with more metro lines!

Paris has the densest Metro system on the planet. It would certainly be a contender. I probably pick Paris.
But all these cities, excepting Milan, have large, comprehensive metro systems. NYC has the biggest system, Moscow has the busiest system, London has the oldest system, Madrid has the newest system. I would probably remove Milan from consideration.
Some lists in online articles. It's not clear if some of these are rankings, but context and some measure of consistency (maybe except the BI article) suggests that they may be at least vaguely in order of impressiveness.

Madrid has 13 metro lines, 4 light metro (basically tram) lies + 10 Cercanias lines (equivalent to RER)
And a population of half the size of Paris. Madrid public transport is much more extensive than PAris metro by far (i.e.: metro systems are kind of the same size but MAdrid is half the size of Paris)
I've seen elsewhere where some people are critical of Tokyo's system. I don't get it. Everyone there uses it, if they aren't on a bike, so the stations are omnipresent, the trains are modern and clean, and punctuality is never a problem.
Some of the routes are even scenic in central Tokyo. You can be on a train that swoops around above the street, and get an amazing view of the neon lights after dark.
I guess if I had one gripe about the Tokyo system, it's that most suburban neighbourhood stations had a lot of stairs... so I'm not sure how easy it would be for someone with disabilities to navigate. Maybe there were elevators I didn't see. My general impression way nice and modern, though. The major stations are enormous and it's incredible to see the sea of people moving through them.
I've never been to Seoul, but its system gets many positive reviews for being modern and efficient.
Toronto's is finally being expanded... an expansion that's way, way overdue. Currently, it basically just goes in some loops around the central downtown area. It needs to be extended out to the suburbs.
