What is the least safest 'rich' (or first world) country for tourists and citizens alike? I know that these countries in the poll are still relatively safe, but which comes rather close to the word "dangerous"?

USA if we are going by high development, Spain and Italy have higher crime rates than the USA though but I wouldn't really call them high, I would call them developed countries.

Considering the fact that everybody virtually has a gun, I do feel much safer in Italy than in the US honestly.
Be aware, I don't want to begin the usual, boring debate gun vs non gun: nobody cares of your guns, keep them if you want.

America's homicide rate is 5 times higher than all European countries in the poll.

Some points to consider:

The US has 320 million people where most European countries are often smaller than most US States. My state, Iowa is about 6 times larger than the Netherlands.

If you compare crime statistics here in Iowa to another European country, I would say, they are probably similar but then we have outlier cities, anomalies like Detroit, East St Louis, Baltimore, New Orleans that are extremely violent due to a high concentration of poverty, socio-economics and ghettoization, which will obviously skew the statistics.

Most average, mid-sized American cities are very safe.

What is Sweden and Germany doing in the poll
Why is Israel not in the poll

Maybe not the absolute 1st World but Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Chile, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Greece and Cyprus could have been in the poll as well.

I didn't list any islamic countries, not because they are not dangerous but just because i don't consider them to be part of the 1st World.
