Madrid is beautiful, as is Veracruz, Mx., Brussels is also nice- in spite of the rumor that it was named after the sprouts.
When I was there, Paris was dirty, smelly and rude, the Paris-ites seemed to consider rudeness as an art form,---- I disagree, but a lot of Paris was disagreeable.
Over all, I suspect the ugliest city on the planet is Lagos, Nigeria---were it not for the garbage mounds there would be no scenery. It almost makes Paris seem pleasant.
The prettiest city I've ever been in is Hanoi. A lovely lake right in the center of downtown, and no ugly high-rises. A few other lovely cities are Antananarivo, Madagascar, Rijeka, Slovenia; Valparaiso, Chile; New Orleans, Louisiana (formerly---I haven't been there since Katrina).
Excuse me but Rijeka is not a city in Slovenia, it is a Croatian city...
And pretty indeed
