My first "taste" of that was when I was in New Delhi (actually staying in Old Delhi) and I couldn't quite figure out what that noise was all about, and I was then innocent of a mosque being nearby!

But again, how many times was I awaken by a Rooster crowing in Mexico/Central/South America!

I've read enough Travelogue books to learn just how pushy the vendors can be in Arab/Muslim countries. I've only been to Morocco, for a week, and I experienced it there, refusing to take NO for an answer! I happened to admire an item in a store in Marrakech one time, and, unbelievably, this store vendor followed me throughout the Marketplace, assuming, because I admired this particular item, I wanted it!

I found the vendors in Latin America to be much more laid back, and, in some cases, I don't even think they want to be disturbed.

In my country the vendors are not pushy to local people. That may be different in touristic places towards tourists though. Well if you don't like it then don't go back.
