Hi all, we have been doing some house-hunting lately, as we want to move out of our apartment in Mallard Pointe (bad neighbors, which is why we want out, among other reasons) and into a home of our own. I was just wondering what areas of town are good, and which ones to avoid? We are looking at homes in the 100-150K range, and if possible, somewhere to avoid city taxes/water. We'd like to be in Rock Hill or Fort Mill, yet not too far from everything... We have looked at a lot of homes in Newport, off of Mt. Gallant, which all seem to be pretty nice, and we haven't really heard any bad about the area.

Any advice is much appreciated!

There's really nice town homes in Fort Mill for around $120K or less in Fort Mill called Catawba Village. It's on the Carowinds side of town off of Pleasant Road. Actually, about centrally located between Gold Hill Road and Carowinds. The look really nice and they're surround by bucks-up neighborhoods. They're built by KB Homes. Though you'd have to pay city taxes and water, it shouldn't be too much.

I believe that Fieldstone (a division of Waterstone?) - don't know if I spelled them correctly - has town homes that are really nice and in your budget or near that. Again - city taxes and water, though. It's located right off the 160 near Tega Cay.

I don't mean to place you in town homes, maybe that's not what you're looking for, but these places are really nice and it couldn't hurt to look. I can't think of neighborhoods in the 150K range with single family homes. At least not in Fort Mill. I'm not too familiar with Rock Hill 'hoods.

I hope this helps and is a start. Try going on realtor.com and do a search. You can plug in your specs (type of house, city, state, price range, etc.) and a list will pop up for you to review.

Newport is a safe area. We have lived in Newport 33 years and never had any problems.
