My Two Fathers

Posted 07-14-2020 at 11:42 AM by jbgusa

I waited a while to post in this topic. My father died in January 1973, when I was almost 16. My stepfather, Ed, came into my life about a month later (though I had met him randomly in November 1972) and died in December 2013.

I have plenty of good memories of my father. He always stood up for me and advocated for me. My mother thought he was unnecessarily difficult with me when he tried to teach me to catch a baseball, he more than made up for it on the ski slope. He formed...

Posted 07-13-2020 at 06:40 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Okay, so Houston is not ready to host the Texas GOP state convention. At least, COVID-wise, things are still not very good at this time. To be fair, the COVID cases are up a bit, but I didn't see a reason why this meeting had to be cancelled when everyone will be taking extra precautions.

The mayor's biggest excuse was mainly political,...

"...He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors." (Isaiah 53:12)

Truly, intercession involves more than just prayer—intercession can be literally translated, "to come between" (see Strong's #H6293). So while Jesus does intercede for us at the right hand of the Father, He also gave His life as a sacrifice—and that required action (see Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25).

Isaiah 53 reveals that with His death, He bore our griefs and...

A Cold One? Well, How About Some Sparkling........Apple Juice?

Posted 07-13-2020 at 02:32 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

One of these days, if you ever look at my fridge at the Case abode, you'd be fooled into thinking I've got cold beer stored in there. And until you look at the label, that would cross your mind first.

Imagine grabbing a cold one after you've worked really hard all week long, and you want to relax. You pick up the bottle and discover......that you can actually twist off the top. Wow, on a beer bottle? Well, that's just unheard of. It looks like a beer. It's...
