By the way, I want to go on record right now as saying that I am very glad that this forum is not representative of the Alaska that I know, and have known for much longer than most of you here.

So, if our economy is subject to a continuous cycle of boom-bust (an assertion to which you are correct), why is the Chosen One making the claim that this cycle is simply due to the "failed policies" of the current administration?

Met, the reason you should express yourself is precisely for this reason, so that there is redressal of balance. Let diverse political viewpoints be heard. Isn't that what America is all about? A casual reading of this forum may lead an outsider like me to believe that most Alaskans lean only one way politically.

My own interest is Alaska has very little to do with its politics. As someone deeply interested in photography, I am fascinated by the land itself, its flora and fauna.

I just came upon this excellent piece in the New York Times (tomorrow's edition) and was surprised that it echoed what I wrote a few posts ago:

"Obama’s message and genealogy alike embody what has changed in the decades since. When he speaks of red and blue America being seamlessly woven into the United States of America, it is always shorthand for the reconciliation of black and white and brown and yellow America as well. Demographically, that’s where America is heading in the new century, and that will be its destiny no matter who wins the election this year."

"Kommiefornia?" Please. If you can't make a point without slamming another state, then it isn't a point worth making. Doesn't Cali have a republican governor, by the way?
Met,

Seriously,

You opine about the low tone taken in this thread (a point to which I agree to a certain extent), yet you freely hurl around personal insults such as "tawdry queen" like anyone else.

c'mon.

There were, at one time, posters here from Alaska who didn't toe the knuckle dragging line; they left.

Personally, I'm tired of it. I told myself that I wasn't even going to involve myself much in politics this year, but then Wilma Flinstone was the VP pick and that coincided with me having too much time on my hands at present. And I'm stubborn; I had to prove that they couldn't run me off this site either.

But it's almost over. Short of some miracle, McCain won't win, and no amount of con rhetoric on this site or anywhere else is going to change that.

My inlaws used to live out on Blossom Hill road, by the way. Cali has some beautiful areas. The MIL was a first generation Italian American and the FIL was a second generation Italian American. Nothing came easily for them. He started out with a little vegetable cart on the streets of San Fransisco and ended up being one of the most successful produce brokers in the U.S. She got her Masters in Education. They both voted Democrat every time.

Moose, I'm talking about the personal insults towards each other, not towards political figures.

I've been provoked here a time or two and have thrown a personal insults at other posters....but it was especially disheartening when I decided to keep my political discussions to the appropriate forum and was followed there by certain posters here who had nothing but personal slams against me to add to several discussions I was involved in. After that, it stopped mattering to me.

Awe c'mon...

Just as in your short live "Palin Prank'ed" thread, you're posting a link to an article you consider as some kind of deep, intellectual analysis of the American psyche, but which is really a story some guy wrote comparing America to a Hollywood MOVIE!
