But I clearly said "some sects of Islam" re the hijabs. The President of the company I work for is a Muslim woman who does not cover her hair, so of course I know that not all of them do.

I am in the NYC metro area, and I spent 20 years working at the WTC, so I enjoy the differences. I know that's not the case in many other places.

I do agree with the concern with covered faces, though.
Most Sikhs in India do not wear turbans and beards. It is actually more of a diaspora (and often political) thing.

Not all Muslim families do that but in those that do, isn't it related to the onset of puberty?

Not here. They're in the coalsack as soon as they're old enough to stand up.

You see that here too a bit, but the vast majority start covering up at 12-13.

I saw a couple of YOU TUBE videos about the issue. The Muslims feel oppressed, insulted, and discriminated. They claim Christians do not have to wear a cross as per the religion whereas Muslim women are obligated to cover. Does Canada have freedom to practice religion in the constitution?

The Catholic Church has declined massively. They reported attendance to church in the high 90% up until 1960 and now is less than 6%. Many new Church goers are mostly migrants. I assume they come from Latin America. Your society is undergoing massive changes in a very short time. What happens when Islam is majority? That will be a billion times more oppressive than Christianity for society at large.

Muslim women are NOT obligated to cover.

Certain streams of Islam choose to require women to cover.

Islam is extremely unlikely to become a majority here.

But it might grow big enough to challenge certain things we take for granted.

Yes but it may of course be balanced against other things.

The opponents to the bill have an all or nothing attitude.

They favour even full face coverings for cops, judges and public school teachers.

This includes non-Muslims who have "rushed to the defence" of Muslims.

I agree, but the ones that do say they have no choice.
