UT System has a $17 billion endowment
TAMU System has a $7 billion endowment
UGA has a $700 million endowment.

I have an engineering degree from MIT. As is the case with you, it's all about relative perception.

You do? Damn. That's pretty nice. MIT imo is the best engineering school in the country and top 3 in the world.

Yes, but with everything else it's all what you make of it. I became a lawyer (UGA), and continually am concerned that it is all what I thought it might be some 22 years ago. As I get older I wonder....

What are you trying to say? Are you saying you have regrets or what?

I promised myself I wouldn't get back into this, but ant's comment did it.

Texas doesn't have any good schools? That may as well be your credibility statement.

UT-Austin is arguably one of the best public schools in the nation. An EXTREMELY underrated institution among the every day layman. Much like University of Washington, UNC-Chapel Hill, Ohio State and University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign; USNWR rankings do not do these schools justice.

Rice is also an incredible institution.

"UT System has a $17 billion endowment

gtcorndog. You cannot compare an institution to a university system. That's 20 billion spread across 15 institutions for UT System.

UT System 20 bln*
TAMU System 7 bln
USG $1.95 bln budget*

It's amazing what the USG gets done even with such a tiny budget.

And Ant, you need to consider costs when you compare these schools. You're not even considering macroeconomics of the schools let alone the political atmosphere of the South, who has never been nice to higher education until very recently. South Carolina's budget cuts are the worst!

Let me point you once again to the ROI study by SmartMoney, where UGA was placed 4th and GT number one.
