That's a great point. If you don't mind PM'ing me your address I'd like to park my truck out front at your place now and then. That thing is taking up way too much space around here. Please don't mess with it, however.

With the exception of a few tiny places in America, you are in a major disadvantage if you do not have a car. Even 50% of the people near NYC has cars. People like to have a life.

Does free speech protect lying?
Inciting to riot?
False advertising?
Slander and libel?
Yelling fire in a crowded theater?
Plagiarism?
Threats?
Blackmail?
Intellectual property?
Revealing state secrets?
Hate speech?
Invasion of privacy?
All forms of pornography?

Sometimes the old 1+1 is more complicated than it first seems.

Because it might be paid for and you might need to drive somewhere?

In my experience this isn't really a problem in densely populated areas, because street parking is typically a free for all. It's also typically not a problem in communities where people have common sense and are neighborly. It all depends on the circumstances. Of course it's legal, but there are definitely scenarios where parking in front of someone else's house, especially when you have space in front of your own, is considered aggressive and rude.

To the original point of the thread street parking as far as I am concerned is a free-for-all and I wouldn't have a problem with it unless someone left something there for days and days with other available parking or parked in front of my house instead of their house or in their driveway if they had the space.
By giving out warnings, it prevents a car break in and doesn't attract criminals to the area because of easy targets.

My neighbor already did that. In fact, it's out there right now.

So I'm not speaking from a place of it doesn't bother me because it doesn't affect me. It sometimes does affect me, and I don't always like it.

But that doesn't mean that I can't see it for what it is. The street and curb are public. If we wanted to make them private and make rules against street parking, we could put up a gate and maintain everything ourselves....but then the association fees would go way up. So to keep my fees down, I don't mind the occasional car in front of my house. I think right now it's a Ford F-250. I've never seen it before, so I'm guessing a neighbor is having an out of town guest.

It's not blocking my driveway, so what am I supposed to do? The law isn't on my side. Of course, having said that, I sure didn't go out of my way to make sure that grass clippings didn't blow all over it when I cut my grass. If you're going to park there, that's something that might happen.

You can't just say "we pay the taxes for it, so only we should be able to use it." Does that mean that when you have a heart attack in some other county the fire department shouldn't send paramedics to you because you never paid a tax in their jurisdiction? We have reciprocity on public services, and that extends to curb parking. So if you don't like it, move to the suburbs. Although I'm here to tell you, that won't get you away from it either. It's just a fact of life, unless you live in a gated community.

Ughhhhh I'm so annoyed! Just got a lovely ticket from ParkAtlanta... I live on 3rd and Durant and parking absolutely sucks!!! I find myself racing home just to get a parking spot. I hate driving anywhere now because it means I won't have a parking spot when I come back. There are two cars on my street that have been abandon for weeks on end. I got a ticket because I had to park in front of a stop sign. It was either that, I park on a sidewalk or leave my car at work and cab it home. I'm so upset!! I love my condo but I cannot wait until the lease is up in 4 months. I wish I would have known parking sucks in Atlanta....

Need to watch the signs where you park in midtown. The Ansley park neighborhood has spots where it's permit parking only. Watch out also that you don't park in front of a fire hydrant or block driveway access. And please do not leave ANYTHING of value in sight in your car, even if it's loose change. The neighborhood patrol arrested someone trying to enter cars in the last few weeks, and there were reports of attempted car break-ins; but nothing taken as people are getting smarter about leaving things in cars.
