The question is not what's "wrong" with Decatur. Its why should all these places be alike?

They wouldn't be anymore alike than simply having an underground station in the central business district. The poster wasn't pushing for an identical downtown.

I don't see any realistic chance of downtown Alpharetta getting any kind of heavy rail. All the alternatives I have seen for the red line extension have the line going straight up 400 and not deviating at all.

And rightfully so, the major employment centers are not in the downtowns, but close to the freeway.

Where's the forum on how they are going to finance this?

How many times have they already studied this? There are 2 previous ones that I have seen. Its just flushing money down the toilet until they have an idea of how to finance it. This is the most expensive of the expansions because of crossing the Chattahoochee.

These types of studies have to be done to qualify for federal money.

No actual feasibility studies have yet been conducted. From the article:

The hearings are part of the planning and public comment process, and that it is just part of the effort to get federal funding...Eatman said the MARTA board could vote as early as this fall on whether to go ahead with a feasibility study.

these hearings are a prerequisite to receive federal funding should it ever become available.
