Um, even if traffic was bad only on 75, 575 and 285, wouldn't that be beyond enough to remedy an urgent and more demonstrative fix? Traffic can intensify beyond the interstate, and it's a rush-hour nightmare throughout Cobb, whether you're in Smyrna or in Acworth. Don't even get me started on getting to places that aren't even off the interstate, like Powder Springs or East Cobb. The entire transportation system throughout Metro Atlanta is a joke. People on all sides are losing. This is not just a Cobb issue.

This looks like a great idea to me. I could imagine this on Cobb Parkway between Cumberland and Windy Hill.

I'm not losing. I live across the street from Marta and my job is across the street from Marta. I get to work to work on average in 15 mins. I have direct access to the airport, downtown, Buckhead, Midtown, etc. I say the transportation here is ok. #winning

Did I say YOU specifically were losing? No, I said people on all sides. Let's hope you never have to get to work or do anything else required outside of your bubble.

Not easy to do when you have two working people in the household and neither place of work is close to a MARTA stop.

MARTA is an excellent solution when it applies, but that isn't always viable.

I would love to incorporate Marta into my day-to-day life, but the system those not cover enough ground for that.

"Cobb County’s four district commissioners support putting a proposed bus rapid transit project on the ballot, but most say they are not sure residents they represent would support a bus system, Marietta Daily Journal is reporting.

A bus rapid transit system proposed for Cobb County would begin at Kennesaw State University and end at MARTA’s Art Center Station.

Commissioner Bob Ott, who represents east Cobb, said the BRT should “absolutely” be put on a referendum, the MDJ reports. Ott added he doesn’t think east Cobb residents will support BRT, but that there may be some support in the Cumberland area..."

Phase 1 would only be KSU to Cumberland. I serious doubt if this thing passes, Phase 2 even gets built and it runs in HOV lanes along I-75.

Looking forward to seeing some renderings. There are some pretty nice BRT systems out there. I hope they aim to build one of the nicer ones. Also, hopefully they will have some sort of traffic light prioritization on Cobb Pkwy, in addition to having a dedicated lane there.

Phase 2 obviously wont be very rapid if it is running along the HOV lanes on I-75. The GRTA buses sit with the rest of the traffic during rush hour, even in the HOV lanes.

Personally, I think the HOV lanes need to be re-purposed to bus only lanes, or the current HOV lanes need to be moved over one lane to allow for a bus only lane. Having these large commuter buses (GRTA as well as Cobb BRT, CCT, CATS, etc.) move through long stretches of traffic quickly would provide even more incentive for people to start riding...which would ultimately take more cars off our already over burdened highways. Win-Win, right?
