30%+ of fans take MARTA to the Dome. That is not a tiny fraction. Especially because that % likely gets higher the bigger the crowd.

To go off what others have said, any rail line that reached that far north-west would probably get more than enough use on its own serving the I-75 commuters and the shoppers from elsewhere in the system going to Cumberland.

Really, Cobb should be negotiating with GRTA, CCT and MARTA to bring in game-day high-capacity buses. MARTA could use the articulated buses starting at rail stations and only stopping at the stadium using the HOV lanes where available. GRTA/CCT could do the same thing from their Park-N-Ride lots and using the HOT lanes.

There must be somewhere in the whole development that's off limits to cars and only accessible to, say, delivery trucks where they could set up a bus station.

Keep the circulators since they'll help too, though not very much, and don't bother much with the Cumberland Transfer Center as much more than its normal bus routes since that's how Cobb's justifying getting Federal funds for it.

Cobb to move on circulator with purchase of six buses

Quote:
The buses would cost $3.3 million of which the county would pay $670,106 with federal grants paying the remainder, according to Jim Wilgus, deputy director of the Cobb Department of Transportation.
Quote:
“If the Braves want a shuttle, they should pay for it,” Howell said. “The basic service for the circulator is to go to the hotels and the big parking decks … (and) I just don’t see it being a service that taxpayers should be paying for.”

Chairman Tim Lee dismissed the idea that the circulator is merely a shuttle to the Braves games, pointing out that service will run year-round. He also countered that revenue collected from local hotels cannot be used elsewhere in the county.

“A circulator in the Cumberland area has been part of the Cumberland plan for a while … just from the density of what it is and as it grows,” Lee said. “The Braves development pushes the envelope in terms of that. It’s really time to implement it … and the funding source we identified was the fee for the hotel/motel (tax) within the district.”

Lee suggested there was nothing unusual about buying the buses before the final plan is approved because the board had already voted to move forward with the circulator plan in May.
Here's the only sized map that I can find:

The only issue with that is the HOT lanes will be going in the reverse direction during the evenings, northbound.

Well, you got me on that. I thought it was more like the teens for the Falcons and 5% for the Braves.

Do you have a source for that?

Here are the two figures that I found:

"about 19.6 percent of fans take MARTA to the games."
Q&A on the News | www.ajc.com

"Currently, 25 percent of Falcons fans travel by MARTA to games at the dome"
Falcons aim high, set goal of LEED Platinum - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal | SportsBusiness Daily Global

That's not a low number at all, but it is quite lower than what you stated.

The only way to get the most accurate numbers is to dispatch MARTA's R&A team to a game and count riders getting off the train or bus.

The exit gates don't keep a count? Seems that would be the easiest and most accurate.

Not everyone exiting at Dome Station is going to the Falcons game, nor is everyone exiting West End Station, transferring to the Braves Shuttle. Now bus boardings on the shuttles after the game could be more accurate, but I still think trying to use the station boardings is hit or miss because not everyone uses Dome or Vine City Station. In fact I have walked to Five Points to avoid the crowd transferring to the Red/Gold Lines.

Also, of all the fans surveyed, about 35 percent took public transportation.

So we've got three studies that show 19.6%, 25%, and 35%. I think all we've proven is that nobody knows.
