I was about to mention "The BUC" (Buckhead/Uptown Connection). It basically went between Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza, along with their connecting office blocks with an off shoot to Tower Place and the two uptown MARTA stations (Buckhead and Lenox). I always felt that this service would have been more complete if it had also connected to the Buckhead Village area (Peachtree/ East Paces Ferry/ Roswell Road area). I have used it before to enable myself to park at less crowded Phipps Plaza and still make it to Lenox Square during the Christmas season. Even before that, they had something called "Shoppers' Chauffeur" that simply connected the two malls to each other and the MARTA stations, but I am dating myself (that was in the mid to late 1990's when I worked at the late, great Rich's of Atlanta at their Lenox Square flagship store}.

Just go ahead and build a monorail and stick a fork in it.

They've been talking about it for 40 years and could have paid for the thing with what they spent on the BUC.

The Buc ran all of its lines up until the early 10s. When I lived in Buckhead it was a great way to get around, especially during the day.

This is not a solution, the on demand shuttle will still get caught in traffic. A truly revolutionary idea is giving transit priority over SOVs.
It's highly doubtful if the City of Atlanta nor GDOT will make this a priority in the next decade. Remember this is the Deep South and old habits die a slow long painful death. Transit-signal prioritization has been named on several transit projects throughout Atlanta proper but has yet to make it to reality. The closest to that is the North Avenue smart corridor, which has its severe limitations for the articulated buses becoming true express bus service.

The Buc still operates. I ride it a few times a year to get to work at AT&T's corporate offices at Lenox Park. I agree that it would be even more useful if it went to the Buckhead Village not that there's even more density to make it viable.

interesting idea, however, without dedicated lanes, not sure how fast it will be. Still helpful though.

Images: Buckhead's Darlington tower being reborn as pint-sized lofts

Earlier talk of converting the Darlington to condos that would simultaneously be luxury and affordable didn’t materialize. Instead, Lofts at Twenty25 is bringing rents that could seem affordable by Buckhead standards, but with floorplans that are relatively small for space-loving Atlanta..."
