Nice, they should really put that on the CC project page... Thanks for doing their job cq! I know it's not the first time a C-D member has had to play the role of PR for a city project

Have you been to any of these recent meetings? Just curious if they are presenting annexation as a possible avenue for funding the project. Because that's really all I have questions about. I didn't see this in the most recent presentation posted, but that was from a year ago.

It's just small pop up, table and posters, with surveys and MARTA planners and contractors to answer questions.
I did ask about Emory annexation at Peachtree Center pop up. They mentioned that without annexation, the project would most likely not get funded until DeKalb Co approved a sales tax increase for MARTA.

Give 'em, hell, tiki. Somebody has to call the powerful to account.

If they've already hired contractors it sounds like they consider this a done deal.

Another week, new Emory Annexation drama.
Quote:
The city of Atlanta could approve the annexation as early as Sept. 5. Atlanta Loop has asked the city for a response to the county’s objection to the annexation petition, and this story will be updated when the city responds.

The county has asked the city for a seat at the table to negotiate the annexation, but the city hasn’t been receptive Commissioner Jeff Rader says. DeKalb County had already signaled its intention to slow walk the annexation. County CEO Michael Thurmond on July 10 sent a letter to the city of Atlanta saying the county has ownership of infrastructure in the area around Emory University that could soon be annexed into the city.

In addition to the university, the 744.7 acre annexation proposal also includes petitions from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Georgia Power, Villa International, Synod of South Atlantic & Presbyterian Church (USA) Inc. and the Centers for Disease Control.
Why does DeKalb Co think they have any right to a seat at the table? They had decades to do something, but instead was too busy shaking down contractors or murdering elected officials.

This is why we need to fully incorporate the metro. Counties acting like cities isn't good for either party. DeKalb having infrastructure is not a reason against annexation from Atlanta and counties shouldn't be in the city business anyway. Counties always fail at being city-like.

I have no sense of empathy for DeKalb County's position. Their ineptness, duplicity and inability to transcend racial politics have rendered them irrelevant to me. They can carve it up like a Christmas turkey for all I care.

To me the Emory area seems so quintessentially DeKalb. It's just hard for me to visualize it as part of the city of Atlanta.
