The Battery is really busy weekend nights as well (off-game days)

The average attendance thus far has been higher than the total average attendance at Turner for the last 18 years combined. If you add in 1998, Turner squeaks above by just 193. Add 1997, and Turner wins out by 734. This year's attendance was higher than any of the last 15 seasons at Turner except 2007.

Attendance increase per year:
2017: 24% (first year at SunTrust)
2018: 2%
2019: 3.9%

If they increase another 1.9% next year to 5.8%, their average attendance at SunTrust will almost exactly equal that of Turner's.

I think it's perfectly safe to say that the move in no way harmed their attendance. And I was originally against the move.

That’s pretty darn impressive, especially given the fact that overall MLB attendance has declined for four straight years. Nice to see the Braves bucking that trend.

Stadium with significantly fewer seats + better amenities + plus winning team = major increase in season ticket sales which leads to higher average attendance.

Anyone who disparaged this move for imagined financial reasons has no understanding whatsoever of the economics of pro sports. The key factor for sustained increased attendance and revenue was simply whether the Braves could improve the product on the field, not the move to a new stadium.

Most of the disparagement was towards Cobb County for screwing its taxpayers over.

The comment below is where this moronic thread started. The handwringing about Cobb taxpayers was a pretense to coverup butthurt about the team moving. Yes, it was a bad deal but as I’ve pointed out before, moving for better taxpayer handouts is what pro teams do, especially the Braves. You know, the team for which Atlanta was their third home.

The first two games were sell outs but if you average the remaining three games they have had so far (27,832), which is likely a closer reflection of the full season, you still get the lowest average attendance since 1991 (not including the years at Turner after they announced they were leaving Atlanta).

Heck the still "opening week" game yesterday only had 21,832. It will be really sad if their average attendance at this new stadium drops below even their already low lame-duck years at Turner.

Honestly, this thread probably needs to be locked at this point.
