That's socking it to 'em, jsvh.

Business is sometimes a slow burn. I don't think immediate profit in 2017 was likely their strategy, or necessarily their expectation. It was the first year after a major expense investment.

If revenue is up 47%, attendance up 23%, ticket revenue up 76%, concession sales up 31%, and retail sales up 45%, and if the value of the Braves has gone up, then, I mean, I wouldn't call that bad news for the Braves.

Good for the Braves and Liberty Media. Pretty savvy folks running Liberty Media, I'd venture to say.

You’re trolling, right? You can’t really be that naive, can you?

The article says operating income was $7m, up from $16m loss prior year. So, the business is healthy and made a big improvement. Plus revenue grew $124m! 47%! Wow.

Lucky for them all that depreciation and amortization means they can avoid income taxes.

You don’t know how to read a balance sheet apparently.

The punishment from MLB is going to be a slow burn as well. That is going to hurt them for years to come.

Liberty also wrote off $13 million in “certain contractual rights in 2017 related to international players,” which would appear to be the dozen-plus Braves minor league players that Major League Baseball declared free agents in a record punishment due to an international signing scandal that cost former General Manager John Coppolella and former Baseball Operations President John Hart their jobs.

Hopefully the entire organization from the top down, will do some serious soul-searching in the aftermath of all that.

I really wish the Braves had different ownership.

I don't think you understand depreciation and amortization. If you buy a car with cash to run a taxi company it doesn't mean every dollar you earn over gas & other monthly expenses is profit. I feel sorry for the companies you try to run that way. Earning a "profit" in a year sounds great until you realize you spent 100 times that "profit" in capital costs in past years that you didn't account for.

Without knowing what assets the Braves depreciated, you can't really judge whether or not that line on their income statement is a good or bad thing. It seems likely to me that a lot of the depreciation taken may have been related to disposal and/or write down of assets they unloaded when moving away from Turner Field, which would likely make them one time expenses. But without a whole lot more information, we can't be very effective armchair forensic accountants, either way.

Once again confirming you don’t know what you’re talking about regarding taxes or team valuation. It’s funny, I’m not a Braves fan but I enjoy seeing that they live in your head rent free.
