That is correct, and it is how the gentrification has been working in East Austin, Crestview, South Austin, and now in my son’s St. Elmo neighborhood.

Pretty sure no one was forced to purchase that property...at any price.

We do have a freeway infrastructure issues but saying we are only I-35 is kind of selling us short. We have 183, MoPac, 290, 183, 71, 45 and 130 as well. They aren’t interstates but are built to freeway standards.

It’s similar to Orlando FL in that regard.
Yea typo with the I-35 it automatically prefilled with that E. Even with that you guys are still in last place in that regards but getting better. But I have enjoyed the transformation of Austin.

Aside from capacity and design issues and the lack of a proper bypass (and a limited access roads out west), I think Austin's inner-city freeway/tollway system is fair for a city its size. We may only have one interstate but there are still plenty of freeways / tollways - with the exception of the western side of the metro.

We do need 290 as a tollway to Houston though.

Pretty interesting link. The section of MoPac where the railroad is in the median is older than I thought. That is kind of an odd setup I might add. I have only seen one other major freeway in the nation with a freight track in the median of a freeway.

Did you know Mopac was specifically built on the rail line and is named Mopac for the Missouri Pacific line that it went through? https://www.kut.org/post/when-loop-n...d-misery-mopac

it's not the railroad, it's the land under it that's expensive..

Yea, though I personally don't know much about the railroad itself.

I was assuming they truncated the freeway with the railroad because it was cheap RoW kind of how they did with Dallas North Tollway between Downtown and I-635, except they also got rid of the existing tracks.

This building is 1/3 office, 1/3rd hotel and more than 1/3 residential. Mixed use
