If this happened here in Ontario, this idiot would have had this happen.....
Speeding at double the posted speed limit, regardless of that the limit is......Results in the roadside seizure of the car, an automatic 7 day license suspension, and a Provincial Offence Notice to appear before a Judge within 20 days. At trial, if convicted the MINIMUM FINE is Two Thousand Dollars, and a 12 month license suspension. The maximum fine is 10 Thousand Dollars, at the discretion of the Judge.
With the crashed Canuckistani Peso, 2,000 is what in US dollars? $10.00?
I don't think he'll face jail time... If that were the case, they most likely would have arrested him on the spot and impounded the car.
I would expect a fine in the neighborhood of $500-$1500, with points assessed against your license and probably 6 months to a year of probation. Judge may mandate that you attend a driver's safety class. I would probably complete a course BEFORE you go before the judge, they will like that you are being proactive and that you take this matter seriously.

Yikes all these responses make me glad I live in Oregon.
I was driving to Salem from Bend one summer (if unfamiliar, it's about 120 miles over a mountain pass, which turns into little mountain towns and farms just outside of Salem), cruising out of the mountains I got pulled over going 70 in a 35...the Sheriff let me off with a warning
OP, start bicycle shopping. Make sure you get a headlight, tail light, rear fender storage, and learn local laws regarding bicycles on public roads. Some tail lights can include turn signals. Without the turn signals, learn the hand signals.

Those of us that live or have lived in VA are kinda used to pumping our own gas though.
You must be one of the lucky ones though. I browsed around and saw that the direct route between Salem and Bend has several speed traps along the way.
