I was about 10 years old, was just getting home with Mom and Dad from going to McDonalds for dinner. We lived on a farm. We saw a Sheriff car sitting in our driveway. Apparently my older brother was clocked at 110 mph going through a small town with his 1970 Road Runner. The cops didn't even bother chasing him, he was gone before they could get out on the road but they knew exactly who they were dealing with.
He went to jail that night and to Vietnam a month later. Back in those days they would let you out of almost anything if you signed up to fight for Uncle Sam LOL. Thank God he made it through OK.

That is how my dad went into the service, he did something stupid (would have to ask my mom what again), and the judge gave him two options - serve time or join the military.
He joined the Navy and retired 22 years later. Wish they would make this offer again, but now Uncle Sam has an influx of applicants and they can pick / choose who they want.
I've gotten four speeding tickets in my lifetime, all in Virginia. All of them were on arterials in the country and absolutely none of them were for going over twice the posted speed limit (worst one was 70 in a 55), especially on a non-highway road.
What the OP did was stupidly and irresponsibly break the law, and that's independent of anyone's self-righteousness as you put it.
So on Friday at 2:55 I got pulled over by an officer of Fairfax city. He used the radar to determine I was going 77 mph in a 35mph zone, this is my first time pulled over. I've had my license for almost 3 years now if not already. My record is clean and I have plus 3 points. I'm 20 years old. I've been freaking out and feel like crying. I know I messed up. Being completely honest with you guys I didn't realize I was going that fast. I know it sounds stupid but I'm telling you guys the truth. I work full time and go to school on Tuesday and Thursday after work. I have never had any problems with the law. What do you guys think the court will do to me for the reckless driving ticket with the things I've told you.
Is the OP still around? Time to lawyer up, but he should plead "first offense" and offer (beg, plead) to go to traffic school to get a break on the ticketed offense. Going over twice the speed limit is pretty strange, though. It borders on reckless endangerment.
^^ Don'tthik he liked the responses he was getting so he hasn't been back.
If he lawyered up, any lawyer worth is salt would tell him to stop posting. I read my client the riot act when he hit the news media on a matter under litigation.
