As already said, the hot market is the small crossover, like the Ford Escape/EcoSport, Chevy Equinox/GMC Terrain, Toyota Rav4, Honda CRV, etc.

These things get almost the same (and sometimes higher) MPG as their sedan equivalents, have a higher driving position (which we Americans seem to like), have AWD for the winter, are still small enough to park and drive in the city, more cargo room and are generally just more practical for a young family.

With all those attributes, it's not hard to see why people are willing to pay the small premium over a compact/mid size sedan.

Yes, 2016 was a record year for auto sales, so naturally many people don't need a new one yet.

Sticker prices are high, but dealers are still more than willing to deal if you know how to play their game.

Compare the gas tank to your Accord to a RAV4 or a CRV. I've found the RAV4 to have a much smaller tank on it than my Accord.

Gas tank on Accord is about 15 gallons. Rav 4 is 16 gallons.

I would agree, so then why are people buying the more expensive SUVs/trucks? If price is the issue, then sedan sales should be through the roof!

SUV’s and Truck push a lot of air. That’s what helps keep the gas mileage down. (High profile) my sedan is a full size and gets an average of 41 mpg. (Lexus Hybrid) I can’t justify buying a SUV or Truck just for the higher views or versatility. Wait and see if the gas prices continue to rise, you’ll see the cars start selling more.. Chevy’s Bolt is a nice car. I took a ride in one and it has some get up and go. Something I would consider, as I use the car only for small trips. Nothing over 100 miles.
