I saw this article and thought it would go over well here. It does seem like the science agrees with my observations. How about you?

(CNN)The science is looking pretty unanimous on this one: Drivers of expensive cars are the worst.

A new study has found that drivers of flashy vehicles are less likely to stop and allow pedestrians to cross the road -- with the likelihood they'll slow down decreasing by 3% for every extra $1,000 that their vehicle is worth.

It reminds me of that old joke:

What's the difference between a Porsche and a Porcupine?

A Porsche has the prick on the inside.

I’ve heard that before. There might be some truth to it. But it wasn’t clear on what they found/didn’t find with regards to folks who drive older, used, highly depreciated luxury marques. I’ve long liked a couple of decade-plus-old luxury cars and I wonder how their drivers might differ.

Utterly amazing that anybody would waste time or money on researching that. There are far more pressing issues to humanity, that the money could be spent on......

Yet another example of why "Science" has lost credibility.

Lets take a subjective concept that cannot be measured and twist around some very limited data to try to support our personal proclivities and beliefs. Then we will call it science.

I am not saying the conclusion is wrong. I agree with it in many cases. It is clearly wrong in many cases, possibly a majority. However to call it science is BS and simply discredits so called "scientific" conclusion in other areas. For "science" to even try to support a gross generalization like that is a fallacy to begin with. if so called "scientists" cannot discern this, then the world of science is in big trouble.

Of all the expensive, exotic and sports car owning folks I know, only about 10% could be classified as "jerks." Most are really nice people.

You know, if someone just told me that was their belief, I'd suspect the person telling me that as much as the drivers. In this case though, they're just recording what people actually do, counting who stops and who doesn't - this is just data. In my line of work, we're taught to be data-driven. So in the absence of any convincing alternative explanations, I am inclined to accept what the data shows.

I usually use another metric to judge.

I typically say you can tell you are in a good neighborhood when car's readily stop to let you cross, or people say thank you when you let them cross.

I guess it's fortunate that I live in a neighborhood with few pedestrians.
