I flew on Bahamas Air in 2012 with an old Boeing 737-200, lovely experience.

That just reminded of Chalk's Airline, another airline that flew from South Florida to the Bahamas which I flew a few times.

Well, it depends. I am an aviation geek with the plan to fly on as many different airplanes as possible, so I love all those old Antonovs, Ilyushins, Tupolevs etc. and strange airlines in strange countries. But for the average travellers those are probably to be avoided. Cubana for example was rather horrible, always delayed, enormous queues at every checkin counter, uncomfortable seats, couldn't-care-less crews and inefficient processes everywhere. From Nueva Gerona back to Havanna the flight was delayed by around 6 hours and we had to wait in the middle of nowhere, for hours and hours without any notice. They just told us the airplane was broken and the replacement will come from Havanna after a while (both old Antonov AN-24). On the way from Nassau back to Havanna, Aerogaviota sent a too small airplane (ATR42 instead of ATR72) and told us they were full but will come back after like 5 hours, we should just wait and then go on the second flight. Maybe it is just like those countries work, but after 6 flights there it started to annoy me.

On the other hand I had to disagree with Skytrax airline ratings that Air Koryo would be the only 1-star-airline in the world (meaning it is the worst airline in the world) - on a 1-hour flight from Beijing to Pyongyang they even served a free hot meal, they offered free checked luggage and all flights were on time, crew was very friendly.

From an aviators perspective, small airlines (EAS carriers such as Cape Air or Boutique air, but also small airlines in Europe) are very good, flying on a 8-seat-cessna is a completely different experience as being in a fully booked 200-people-airbus like a piece of cattle.

My best flights (from a comfort and airline quality perspective) were Korean Air (First class) and Singapore Airlines (Business class), those flights could have lasted forever.

Growing up in Alaska I flew on Wien F27's and 737-200's many times. It was always an adventure.
