pure speculation. At this point, I don't know what to believe. Only thing I know is a-rod always becomes the center of attention. I used to be his biggest supporter, and felt bad when Yankees fans gave him a hard time, but this is getting ridiculous. From the reports that he flirted with a girl during the playoffs to the allegations that he used more banned substances for an extended amount of time, I'm finding it hard to support the guy anymore. Most of the baseball community was sick of a-rod years ago, and now his few remaining fans are losing faith. Sad
Just from a financial standpoint look at Youk's stats over the last few and if you compare them to Arod, they're probably close but at half the salary. If Youk can put up numbers like he did previously (excluding last year), he's a bargain compared to Arod. We also don't need to hear anymore about steroids with him. As a Yankee fan, I can say that he never has felt like a REAL Yankee. Guys like Wells felt like real Yankees. You don't necessarily have to come up through the organization to give that off. Paul O'neill had that too. Trade him, void the contract; whatever you have to do to get rid of this guy surrounded with all his lies. So much talent...so little brains!
I am sure ARod will try to come back, so he will be working out throughout the year trying to get something back. If I am ARod, I would only settle if it was financially beneficial to me. While it would be awesome for the Yanks if he went away, I bet he hangs on for at least 2 more years trying to come back....then maybe a settlement.
Rodriguez has already been paid more than 300 million dollars in his career. For the additional 114 million over five more years with the Yankees, or any other club, he may look forward to being booed relentlessly everywhere he plays, and I would imagine that will include Yankee Stadium. Any records he sets or breaks will be tainted and will be seen as such by the fans and media.
Further, his on field performances have been in sharp decline for the last five seasons and during this period he has missed more and more time due to injuries. This may certainly be expected to continue, and if what we have be seeing the last few seasons have been fueled by PEDs, the next five years without them should show an even steeper decline in performance.
So.....we are talking a situation where a player in disgrace, unliked by the other players, the fans and the media, booed and hounded by the fans as a cheat, collecting immense sums of money for what most probably will be very little production....hangs on in an embarrassing manner just to get that 114 million more.
He should just quit right now. I can't imagine that he needs the money...couldn't you get through the rest of your life on 300 million? The only circumstances where I would not wish to see Rodriguez quit would be if instead he was being thrown out and banned for life. He deserves that for having taken such a huge crap on the game and its fans.

Let's see
2010-2012:
A-Rod: 358 games, .351/.468 21% better than league average, 43 batting runs, -1 baserunning run, 5 fielding runs, 52 replacement runs, -2 positional runs, 10.2 WAR
Youk: 344 games, .372/.472 27% better than league average, 52 batting runs, -2 baserunning runs, -6 fielding runs, 49 replacement runs, -6 positional runs, 9.1 WAR
So, yup. Youk has been about equal to A-Rod.
His 2013 looks to be likely more productive as well
