I know places along highland is generally good. But this place also looks somehow close to the infamous Gardere lane. Just want to make sure I don't end up living in a dangerous neighbourhood cuz safety is of utmost concern for me because of some bad experience before.

I have mixed emotions about the neighborhood. It does have affordable starter homes in an area that is a decent commute to downtown. However: (1) It is in a low lying area that is beneath the natural levee of the Mississippi River, and I recall parts of it have flooded before (2) the proximity to Gardere - you can see some of the apartments from across Bayou Fountain, (3) they're extending Staring Lane as an elevated roadway right through the middle of the neighborhood, (4) The neighborhod seems transient, as in, I've driven through there before and seen some houses not maintained that well - and we're talking about a neighborhood with homes built in the late 70s.

I've had friends that lived in there about 6 years ago and loved it. But I don't know about recently, it may have gone downhill. I think it's a cute neighborhood and has a convenient location. But for all BRMan's reasons above, I have to say... if you are going to rent there, it would be OK, but to buy, I'd look someplace else. I think the Staring extension will be the beginning of a bad decline for the neighborhood.
