I realize I'm in the wrong section now, posted in Burlington and asking about small towns in Northern VT. I just want to keep our options open, also I don't really care that much about the first house/apt we're going to rent, since we'll probably move the year after... Find what works best for us you know. I'm finding a lot of cheap rentals in Newport (VT), there's probably a reason why...? lol.

Back when I was a student and renting in Burlington the big turn over for leases was June 1st (at least in the areas that were closet o UVM). Not sure if that is still the case but may be worth checking. If that is still the case there may be more to choose from in Burlington if you can come up before June.

Regarding Newport/Orleans etc..its cheap because it is the most economically depressed area in the state. Also very rural and isolated.

Thanks vter, I did get that June 1rst was THE date to move... But then in QC it's July 1rst and honestly, it's just a hectic day for the whole province (especially in the city), everybody moving and all... It's too much. Besides, we planned on starting to look on June 1rst, there's really no way to change that, and then again, being less and less interested in Burlington with everything I've read lol. So just hopeful we can find a nice little place in a nice little town

Really Burlington is a nice place to visit and shop in, even work in, but not live. It's too congested and crowded, you'll be much better off in a nice little town 20-40 mins away.

YES, working downtown New Orleans for the last 4 years has made me long for a more natural lifestyle, more peaceful anyway. I should know in a couple of weeks if I get the job, then I'll know if I have to live near the city or not

How about some furniture stores that deliver around Burlington? Could be thrift stores or ideally stores that accept monthly payments... Know any? Thanks

There are many antique/second hand stores. We also got some unfinished stuff from Sam's Furniture in burlington and finished it ourselves. But if you search for thrift shops in whichever city you will find some. We didn't do thrift shopping as much but we do like antique shops, there used to be one in milton where Ace is but they closed. There is also one right at the milton/georgia line(red barn). and there is one in essex not far from the family fun center but I forgot the name of that one. We checked out a few others as well, again, google is your friend(it was ours).

Burlington is a tiny city, really a big town. Congested and crowded isn't something that comes to mind.
