I don't hear of anyone mentioning those cherry guys and gals.

What's happened to the Klan in Redding?
Has meth, oxycontin, and the recession cause them to slack off on the job?
Do you have any links for that? Californians generally aren't aware that the KKK was active anywhere in the state.

Unfortunately Redding ( and outlying areas as in the YouTube video I am linking ) is home to many who hate people of color as well as LGBT citizens... Tho I dont know of active KKK members, we do have a healthy population of White Pride members.

UGH! Well, so much for Redding! Not my kind of place. Well, at least they have a decent police chief and some good citizens.

But still....

What is the attitude toward Native Americans? There are some reservations north of there.

For the record, the police chief in Redding is a little tin god who is completely out of touch and regarded as a moron by many on his force as well as the public here which is not surprising, he was hired 2 years ago from Stockton and doesn't know the people here, as well as much of the police force. Much of the RPD can't stand the guy and can't wait for retirement. ( The video I posted above is from the town of Anderson which is 15 miles north of Redding and has a much different police chief than the one in Redding.)

Support of the local Native Americans is evident by the huge support of the casinos here... outside of the casinos, again, people of color are barely tolerated by a good number of citizens. Redding is notorious for being a city for "white flight" Many people who retire here are white who move here due to low prices of homes but also for a lack of diversity. You could probably count on one hand the number of Black citizens you would see here in one day shopping in the mall, etc.

Oh for goodness' sake you guys.

End of the world. There's crime in Redding, oh no! Better move to some place with no crime...

And where would that be?

You want a perfect place that's not too hot in the summer, not too cold in the winter, with no crime and low rent...

See you in the next life?

In the meantime, I love my cheap apt in downtown Redding, thank you very much. Spread the word that it sucks here. Keeps my rent low.

To me, Redding is always "What could have been...". I moved there when the good old boys still had a stranglehold on the politics of the region. I moved out when it was obvious the lack of vision (other than the Calatrava bridge) was going to send the city on a downward spiral.

It's really too bad the city didn't capitalize on the housing boom from the early- to mid-2000s. There has to be a visionary who moved there that was squelched in the old political machine. You have a city that is relatively safe, plunkered down in the middle of a outdoorist's paradise, and you still can't make it work? So sad.

Default Missing Redding

I currently live 20 minutes outside of Dallas, Texas and I am miserable. I am moving BACK to Redding in exactly four weeks after living here in Texas since 12/13. I am literally counting the days until we leave.
I lived all but about a year of my life in Redding. The year I didnt I was going to college in Sacramento.
I never realized (until I moved here) just how lucky I was to have lived in a place so beautiful.
I didnt know I could actually MISS nature . I mean, I was so homesick it was unbelievable.
Redding may not be the best place to live for some people but for me it is. I cant wait to get back there and be "home" again.....

Ah Redding

Ever so surely being homogenized into another Califiornia disintiigrating city

Yes crime has skyrocketed.... forget statistics which we call the log of lies.. Im talking about the citizen on the street

Our police force is understaffed and morale is low because of crappy support by an anemic divided city council

Our beautiful nautral world, rarely really explored by most residents, is taking a hit from the dopers who are substantially affecting the ecosystems and treat the world as their toilet (per internal forest service reports)

Shasta County is a social welfare county.. mix retirees with social suckers inst a good mix

No high paying jobs...

Rents may be cheap but quality of life may not be as great as it was even a couple of years ago

There no klan here.. at least not that Ive ever seen.. historically there was some militia but from the reports Ive seen most of them have moved on to places like Idaho.. Kalifornia is not tolerant of their behavior even in lil old redding.

What I do see is the metroseual blend of Redding turning into any other typical overburdened California city... and yes that means population and demographics as well..lowlifes come for the social programs.. they come on all colors

The prison gangs have been very active in Redding behind the scenes and orchestrating from thier cells.. Redding is a good stopover between L.A and Seattle and vying for the turf rights is important.. even if the gangbangers still look like wannabes

Retirement number two is on the short horizon for me then Im outta here...

I want more freedom, less oppressive government, less taxation, less social welfare, way less permissive MJ culture...

Redding is still a good value as far as Kalifornia goes... but not nationwide.. it can no longer measure up...

Ah, cops. Always with the balanced view and appreciation of life.
No klan or militia groups? Must be lonely for you.
But you know, if I were feeling about life the way you write, and I was to list what I wanted in my retirement -- top 'o my list would be a better attitude.
