“Newsom, by contrast, is grounded in reality. His platform includes a commitment to move toward universal health care, though he readily acknowledges it could take years — and a power shift in Washington — to achieve. ”

In other words, he says he supports universal healthcare so he can pander to his base, all the while acknowledging it won’t happen.

Budget Surplus, rainy day fund, booming RE market, low unemployment.

Amazing that once a Democrat is in office, the disaster of the Governator has been stopped.

Loving the fact that Republicans are extinct in California!!!!!!

That man didn't have a clue as to what he was doing. Brown had to fix a lot of Arnold's mistakes. He's done a pretty good job. Side note ... he did a recent interview for 60 Minutes or 48 Hours (can't remember which) where he said he was glad to leaving politics. He and his wife plan on spending the rest of their days on their ranch in Northern California. He gave a short tour of the place. It's like living in your own private country. No crime, drugs, homeless, or the other things that many Californians deal with in their neighborhood. Maybe only wild fires.

Politicians are scum. They will do anything to win and this has now become an all out war of right vs. left. Collins' statement wasn't attacking Ford. It was about how we've come to a point where accusations of something are taken as fact without evidence but that's an exhausting discussion that's been going on elsewhere on City-Data.

As for Kavanaugh, I don't think he was a choir boy in high school or college. Many young men aren't. Every parent should be driving that home to their children now because I see a change in the future. How they act today will make a difference later.
Used to be a time when you could act like a hooligan and get away with it because you changed when you grew up but as we're seeing in today's political climate, you better be on your best behavior after birth or you could end up sitting before a committee some day explaining what you did and why you did it when you were a kid.

This is pretty much how I feel about Newsom. Anyone who paid attention to politics in California over the years knows his history. He's no pillar of society either. Of course, if I had been judged on my teenage history, I doubt anyone would have given me a job. I breathe a sigh of relief those days are behind me.

Still looking forward to an exciting election this year, though.
I agree that I wouldn't want anyone to necessarily know about my drug use in my high school years - but - even then, I had scruples. I smoked pot, and dropped LSD, but I never attempted to rape anyone or attempted to rob anyone, etc. I don't think it's the same thing in the least. The kids I knew back then, when I was in high school in the 1970's, at worst, were into drugs. But, it was NEVER, absolutely NEVER acceptable for anyone to attempt to rape anyone.

So, I completely disagree that this kind of behavior was in any way normal, or should be dismissed as such - just because it happened way back when.

We knew the difference back then, just as we know the difference now.

And, again, the idea that a woman can be believed to have been a victim of attempted rape - yet - not remember who her attacker was - when she knew him personally, and by name - is just insane. Absolutely, insane.

How can anyone think that a woman was definitely a victim of attempted rape, that her testimony as such is credibly - yet then claim that she can't remember the kid who was looking into her eyes while he did so - who was a kid she knew by name?

That's just so incredibly incredulous, as to be ....I can't even think of the words. Insane, unreasonable, incomprehensible - you pick.

Me too but for a different reason. It doesn't matter to me which one is elected, as far as my standards of living are concerned. I am just angry at what the democratic party has become and the dirty tactics they use.

Wow, that's some article! So Newsom won't have any other debates except for a single one ... on a Monday night, no less. Wonder what he's so afraid of that he isn't willing to speak about why he's the better choice for the state. I can't believe Californians are so mush brained about this guy. Although, the article does state that's the tactic used by candidates when they don't want to give their opponent a chance to win voters away. Typical California. Suppress information, keep voters in the dark and then hope you've fed them enough kool-aid they aren't smart enough to wake up from the coma.
