...on Friday I heard that she has mets to the brain with a 3-6 month life expectancy. I feel awful for her, and I know this will sound selfish but I felt like someone punched me in the gut. I thought she was safe, but it got her - what if it gets me too?
A good friend of mine has a coworker who was diagnosed last summer with a brain tumor and told she had 3-5 months to live. She elected to go on a medical leave and have an intensive chemo treatments, which was the last resort. My friend said that her coworker has just found out she is cancer free. You just never know. I'm sorry about your stepgrandfather.
Oncologist thinks it's an enlarged lymph node. He does not seem overly concerned, and I'm not either. He wants to scan it just to be sure. When I reminded him that I'd be having a routine PET/CT in March, we both agreed it could wait until then, so long as it does not get larger. If it does, he wants to know right away.
Thank you all for your support. I'll be very happy to tell you about my clean scan in March.
The routine PET/CT scan was denied by National Care Core. It seems I don't have enough symptoms to qualify for a PET/CT. They did, however, approve CAT scans with constrast of the neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis. The lump is still in the neck and the scans are tomorrow afternoon. I know those who chat here will keep a good thought and I'm grateful. As I promised in that earlier post above, I'll let you know the results when I get them.

Oh that sounds wonderful. I will tell you this - today is the first time in well over a year that I had to buy razorblades. I was so excited! Until I saw the price tag. Then I wasn't excited anymore. LOL
Bad weekend, cancer-wise. First of all, I've got a very itchy rash around where the surgeon took my port out. Despite taking benedryl and using benedryl cream, it seems to be spreading. If it is not at least a little better by tomorrow I am going to go to the urgent care clinic and beg for something prescription-strength. Second of all, I got terrible news x2 Friday. A coworker of mine offered me a lot of moral support after I was diagnosed; she had been diagnosed with breast cancer about a year before me, was just finishing up treatments and doing really well. Well, on Friday I heard that she has mets to the brain, with a 3-6 month life expectancy. I feel awful for her, and I know this will sound selfish but I felt like someone punched me in the gut. I thought she was safe, but it got her - what if it gets me too? So I go home and get an email from my grandmother. My stepgrandfather had colon cancer maybe 6-7 years ago and dealt with it. Well he's been having pains and they thought it was scar tissue from the cancer surgery, so they went in to remove it. Turns out it was more cancer and it's spread terribly. My grandmother says he is not expected to last very long.
Have you washed the area around your port? Could it be a reaction to iodine or whatever was used to cleanse the area before your port was removed? Just thinking. So sorry about your co-worker. It's very easy to internalize information like that and feel vulnerable. I'm 8 years post-ovarian cancer, and when I hear of someone having a recurrence who has a longer survival, I feel scared, too. It's like you're never really out of the woods.

By now you have probably had the CAT. We will wait for you to tell us how everything turns out. I hope it went well. God Bless,
Nita
