I thought God was omniscient and omnipresent. If he is omnipresent - then he is all around us. If he is everywhere at once - the earth would look like a sphere and not a flat circle.

Or perhaps the writers of the Bible just misunderstood what God was telling them to write since they had no concept of what the earth actually looked like. God might have tried to explain it but all they understood was "circle." Or maybe it wasn't divinely inspired and it does say the earth was flat because at the time -they thought it was.

But does all this really matter? People that believe the Bible are going to believe the Bible whether nor not it says that the world is flat. People that don't believe the Bible - well, it doesn't matter to us anyway.

Two points:

1.) The Bible does not claim the Earth is flat. But even if it did...

2.) The Bible is not a geology textbook.

Using the Bible to prove or disprove scientific points is like using Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind" to forecast the weather.

"Today in Michigan, bombs have been forever banned. Therefore, we'll have temperatures in the low to mid-70s."

Today in Michigan, the preaching of islam on the streets is protected by the police while the preaching of The Gospel of Christ on the streets will get you arrested. The Bible is many books full with textual verifiable scientific facts...and God forbid, if the Bible is ever banned in America...The Blessings of The Eternal One bring us to our knees seven times a day...pray

Baloney (AKA: Bologna ). Both are protected speech. Sounds like the average Christian persecution complex to me. 1000s of times more gospel preaching goes on in America everyday than Islam preaching.

God can know anything he wants to know but his dwelling place is in Heaven.

Matthew 18:10 (21st Century King James Version)

10"Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you that in Heaven their angels do always behold the face of My Father who is in Heaven.

Depends on what you mean.

The Bible is concerned with God's relationship to humanity, and it is oftentimes written in very poetic, metaphoric language. It is not meant as a scientfiic treatise on anything. To use the Bible to "prove" the original of species or the wavelength of ultraviolet light or the chemical composition of the soil on Mars is to misuse the Bible. Those issues are not its concern.

Psalm 103:12 (New International Version)

12 as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

This is a verse that I believe indicates some understanding of a spherical planet. People often over look this but, if these writings were meant to illustrate a flat earth, than there would be no difference in this text if the writer had used North and South instead of East and West. But the writer did use east and west for what I believe is a very specific reason. If a person started at the southern most spot on this sphere and started traveling north, he could only travel north for so long, eventually he would end up heading south again once he reached the most northern spot, however if he started out at lets say the equator and started traveling east, he could do so for eternity. Same if he were to travel west. If the earth was flat, all four directions would have yielded the same results. This text was not speaking in matters of distance it was speaking in the sense of how eternal our redemption will be.
