I never claimed the Spirit and the Bible contradict. I believe they are in sync. The universalists claim there is a contradiction, but they can never provide a single example. Instead they keep quoting from the book which they slam as something written by corrupt, evil and ignorant people. Go figure.....
The bible says that God commanded Abraham to sacrifice his son. People, like yourself, believe that to be a literal truth. The spiritual truth, however, is that the God who IS love would never command me to kill my own child to prove my loyalty. That is written in my heart. Is it written in yours?

Does your conscience bear witness that eternal torment is true, is this something that is written on your heart that you trust is just and right ?.

But you believe, because it is written in ink, that the God who is love has, and may still, put others -- maybe even you, if you have a child -- to the test of killing their own child to prove their loyalty. I know that cannot be true.
So, I gave you what you asked for: a spiritual truth that has been written in my heart that contradicts a literal reading of the bible. You can stop asking now.
There is another member of this forum that was with me on another forum where we discussed Universalism. I was really into the Bible and literal interpretation of it at the time. I was an annihilationist (a product of Armstrongism). I didn't believe in Universalism but knew I had to at least listen and understand and consider what was being said (because you have to DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD WANT DONE UNTO YOU). So I would have wanted someone else to consider and evaluate what I was saying. So we had pages and pages of isolated discussion on the very topic of universalism and in that discussion I surrendured to the Truth. I couldn't logically and rationally find sufficient evidence against it in the Bible. And once I embraced it - the liberation was like a title wave of information that was rapidly filling my mind with new perspective and knowledge about events and doctrines in the Bible.
It is my hope that many fundamentalists will try to debate the subject in the same way that they may at least DO UNTO OTHERS AS THEY WOULD WANT DONE UNTO THEM.

Well, I started off into this world in a family that raised me into Eternal Torment ROMAN CATHOLIC. I moved from that to annihilationism and then to universalism.

Trettep ... it may be that Abraham really existed, and that he really believed that God commanded him to sacrifice his son. However, how do you reconcile the God who is love and who is life, and the God who is reported to have told the Israelites that the idea of sacrificing children never entered his mind*, with the idea that God commanded the fore-father of the Israelites to sacrifice his child?
