You are just sinning (lying) the crap out of this one. Please don’t stop and just apologize.

Jesus (aka Yahweh) will be proud.

It's really heartbreaking, geekigurl. I'm very sorry for what you are going through. Wanting to serve in your church, and not being allowed to...that is just repugnant behavior on the part of the church. I'm just so sorry, and ashamed on behalf of this religion I am a part of. Take heart and know that you are not alone.

And it just frustrates me and stresses me out. I'm single, don't sleep around or anything, and don't do drugs. Or anything like that. I literally don't sin any differently than anyone else there (or here), but the only reason I can't serve there is because the way I was born. And people wonder why I'm so ticked off and snappy. What do they expect? Seriously. Some would say go to another church, but I live in a pretty conservative area. I'm at the most accepting church I could possibly be at. I mean, technically there is another place I could go, but I'd have to walk a mile and a half to get there, because I don't have a car and the buses don't run on Sunday. And I shouldn't have to leave a church that I'd be happy in otherwise. None of this is just. None of it.

How do churches justify not letting people serve due to being gay? Whoever came up with such a bizarre idea? This is like Scarlet Letter-level ridiculous. Do they refuse tithes from gay people as well---because isn't that part of "serving?" I think I know the answer to that one.

Unbelievable hypocrisy and cruelty, especially in light of who they do allow to serve.

Would you let someone serve in church who was in an open marriage and cheating on their spouse?

Looks like some reminders are needed here.

First, language used in the R&S forum is to meet this standard:

We are moderating these forums on a zero tolerance policy against any profanity of any kind. It's pretty simple. City-Data operates a language filter. If a word you wanted to use if filtered out, don't try to circumvent the filter. We don't allow any cussing, even if it is spelled c*ssing or Cu$$ing or C*ssyng. Just don't do it.

Furthermore, this is so offensive to so many members that people breaking this rule can expect to receive a post limiting infraction even for the first offense.

If the words you want to say are unacceptable for use in a church service, find some other words to use to say what you are trying to say.
Second, we're not going to tolerate demeaning terms about anybody. Certainly, there are user names that do not clearly identify the owner's gender, such as Baker, Yac, Crusader, Anointed, Writer, or Star, but many others are obvious, such as Mightyqueen, mensaguy, or geekigurl. This is particularly true when the information is indicated on a member's profile, as these three examples are. I recently referred to a member as "he" and was corrected. Perhaps I should have said "he or she" instead. However, using the term "he/she" for a member of the LGBT community, especially when the member's gender is clearly known, is an obvious, deliberate attempt to demean the member. If you think the moderators don't know that or see what is said, or think we will be fooled by some claim of innocence, you must think we are pretty stupid. Trust this: we're not stupid and will not tolerate going forward. There are no acceptable excuses.

Personally I can't count the times people have said he/she to me, and I have though nothing of it. Stop insisting on being offended at everything when there is nothing to be offended about.
Finn, you need to stop playing dumb. Have you not figured out, that at this point, everyone other than a select few of your fundie buddies see right through it? You knew dang well with a name like "geekigurl", that she is a female. At this point, you are simply lying (as you tend to do on a post by post basis anyways).

So, stop playing dumb, or we are going to have to start assuming you actually are dumb...

Edit: Finn doing things like this, just proves what we all already knew... He is a bigot who plays word games to try and make himself seem like less of one.

You mean an adulterer, like me (divorced and remarried)? Yes. Never once has my free labor, or my tithes, been declined at church because of continual adultery. This is not hypothetical. This is current practice even in evangelical churches with over half its congregation divorced and remarried. Adulterers, by a literalist interpretation of scripture. They would literally have no volunteers if they banned us. Also, remember, people who lust in their hearts are adulterers, so we may not even have pastors.

I would also allow someone to serve who was in 12 step recovery, greedy, a liar, hypocrite, a glutton, ungrateful, covetous, someone who looks at porn, a gossiper, someone who doesn't give all they have to the poor, someone who is angry with their brother, Christians who don't forgive...etc. etc.

Can't you see that is all of us???

I mean really, would you care to create a list of people who can't serve? Let's try. There would be no one left! But rather, let's pick out a population that is less than 4% of the overall population and just ban them. That way we can project our entire shadow side on to them, and not have to deal with ourselves.

Accusations and name calling like the ones from ImissThe90's are actual examples of deliberate demeaning.

I will never know what it so demeaning in saying 'he/she'. People say it all the time without any intent to demean.

Nor will I never know how calling people dumb, nasty, jerk, nazi, KKK member, racist, bigot, hater, liar, etc is NOT considered demeaning. Evangelical Christians are called nazis because that is the worst name they can think of.

I suppose it is what it is.

With being a member since 09 and having 63k posts with an astonishing 11.6 post A DAY (nice life ) you are claiming you are not sinning through your teeth right now?

They aren't accusations, Finn, they are truth. You do this all the time on the thread. You say something that is obviously meant one way (like calling geekigurl a he/she multiple times), and then claiming you didn't. So you are playing dumb, and you are a bigot. Otherwise, you wouldn't keep saying demeaning things to, and about LGBTQ people.

You know dang well, Finn, but keep playing dumb (lying) and proving my point. You even knew she was a female in the post where you kept saying it, because you said, "he/she whipped herself into it".... So you knew then, but not when you kept typing he/she and him/her???

I said, if you keep it up (playing dumb), we will have to start assuming you are dumb. I didn't say you were dumb, Finny. I do stick by the fact that you are a lying bigot though, and have seen plenty to back that up. As has most other people posting here by the looks of it.
