Yes, you're correct. And it's the issue that Paul was addressing. On the other hand, if we just believe that there is power in the elements itself, and that it has less to do with the heart of the person partaking, we can see that it would cause one to tend to simply do it in a rote, ritualistic way.

Instead, it commands us to eat it worthily, with a clean heart. Confessing our sins before. Not taking it lightly. It's not a simple after-thought (as I frequently found it to be as a Catholic). It isn't something we just do thoughtlessly. We remember him. We thank him. We worship him.
But it does says exactly this in John 6. And no matter how a Protestant wishes to interpret the verses , we are left with the undeniable fact that some disciples questioned Jesus on how this was possible, and after further explanation from Jesus left him because they couldn’t accept his words, implying that further explanation from Jesus left those who heard him in person with their own ears believing he meant it literally .

And Ignatius, who studied personally under the writer of the Gospel of John and learned the faith from John, believed Jesus meant it literally and that John recorded it as literally meant .

That’s a LOT to explain away

Baptist Fundi likes to pretend he isnt Catholic when he follows and practices what is wholley Catholic, invented and or instituted by the Catholic which completely opposes God's laws and worship system, making it uniquely Catholic. By following what is wholley Catholic, he proves to be under Catholic Authority.

He proves he's a Catholic everyday, but he pretends he's not lol, you cant make this stuff up.

Again, stop reading into it. Read the Gospel in the entirety and you'll see that John frequently used metaphors, such as living water, light, a door, vine, etc. Jesus no more said to literally eat his flesh than he said he'd give them actual water that would keep them from dying.

Pretty sure it's a rules violation to misrepresent people. I'm not Catholic. And you know that. It's rude and obnoxious to suggest I am.

You have focused on the central issue, BapFun. IT IS about what the individual receiving the communion evokes within their consciousness that matters and is the actual purpose of the remembrance. But it's also a spiritual reality NOT merely a symbolic remembrance.

Unfortunately, a carnal mind simply cannot wrap itself around the spiritual reality of the transubstantiation any easier than it can comprehend the difference between a natural body and a spiritual body.

I'm constantly amazed at the manner in which you so completely and rudely disregard anything that anyone says.

This is a non answer from you . You are not addressing what I said . Why tell me to read it better when I am giving you the biblical facts that disciples left Jesus over his words ? Why not address that, or address Ignatius, instead of just proclaiming I am reading it wrong ? The Bible says the disciples that left understood it this way. Why did the disciples leave grumbling that it was impossible to eat Jesus’s flesh? Why did the disciple of the writer of John believe it became Jesus’s flesh, which he clearly states it does ?

You might try addressing the actual points I made . I’m not offering my opinion on what the verses mean, I am giving examples of how the people of Jesus day took his words to be literal because they heard him say it himself, or they learned it from an Apostle .

I just complimented you for recognizing the real issue about communion and you insist on seeing rudeness and disregard in it. Your prejudice against me is beyond the pale, BapFun. Get some help.
