It's a matter of historical record. You can trace the lineage of bishops all the way back to Peter.
Jesus never said Peter would be the church founder. He said that on the revelation that Peter understood that Jesus was the Messiah, was the rock that the Church would be founded on.

Yes!!! The Catholic Church deliberately misinterpreted "Petra" as the name change of Simon and perpetuated it throughout the NT writings to support their illicit claim to apostolic authority.
I don't want to speak for Mike. I'll let him respond to you. For me personally, if history has scientific evidence to support it, why not believe God's word and history? why use "or"? Problem with history is when the facts become twisted around, the evidence tampered with, and then people start making **** up.
God’s word supersedes history, church or otherwise! Which do you trust more? The word of God or the history written by fallible men?

The historical record was not given by inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
LOL; no, it wasn't. Neither is what you ate for breakfast this morning.

Accounts of history were written by fallible men. History itself happened.
While man's account of history may sometimes contradict Divine Revelation; history itself; i.e. the actual unfolding of events over time, cannot.

Christ is the Lord of History, so there is no dichotomy here.

The sad thing is that they abandoned Peter's teachings and went their own way.
