Hi, I lived in Stratford Manor when I was about four to five years old and attended Kindergarden while we lived there. We then moved down to Charloe St. in the small subdivision at the bottom of Duck Creek Rd. and I attend Eastwood Elementary until I finished 6th grade, I believe it was 1967.

When we lived in the Manor, I remember being able to walk out the back door of our apartment building and walking through the gate next to the annex building.

I learned how to swim at the pool there at the Apartment complex and I remember going to the drugstore during lunch period.

The woods that I use to play in were at the bottom of Duck Creek Rd. at the entrance to Charloe St. between there and the cemetary. There are apartments and condos there now. During school season all the kids from the subdivision would gather at the end of Charloe St. and the younger kids would be led up Duck Creek to School.

I also was a patrol Guard at Eastwood Circle and Madison Rd. I remember Mrs McCartney as my Principle and Mr. Shade as my gym teach. I believe another teacher was named Mrs. Roundbottom and a Mrs. Jones.

I also remember being escorted once a week over to the Orphanage for religious instruction because they could not do it in school. This was for the protestant children.

Revj

Revj, I am very happy that you got on here and shared your memories, believe me as you go back and read some of the others, things will come back to mind. I was talking with my brother tonight and I mentioned the Zoo, we both laughed at how exciting it was that at the end of the school year they would take us to the zoo. On page 46 is a picture of the woman that worked at the drug store fountain. Her name was Desie I think, her daughter goes by the name Shwanoe Trail and posted the picture. All that remembered her had all nice things to say. I hope you stay with us and go back and read the pages leading up to today, they are alot of fun. Looking forward to more posts and memories. Hyden

A.F.D., I would guess that revj lived up the other end of Strathmore Dr. because he said he faced the back of the annex building. Hyden

Id like to thank everyone on this forum. Hyden, because of your help I now have a Withrow Yearbook from 1969. There was this girl I never forgot and for the first time in decades I got to see her picture. Kept me awake at night. Oh my I wish I could go back to that time. She could not escape me. But God has blessed me with wonderful children and grandchildren. Just wish I could have snagged her too.

The Oakley Drive-In pictures were incredible. Never thought I would see that place again. The view from inside looking through the booth to the driveway up hill really struck a cord in my fading memories. Drove that route many times in my youth. Strange how important those days are now. Back then we were just passing time. Now they appear to me as beautiful paintings, their significance unappreciated till now. Those times, places ,events and experiences, friends, girls, all are treasured now.

Pictures of Stratford Manor. Would never have seen them without this forum. Thank you everyone. There was a 55 Chevy parked in one of those lots. I just don't have the picture.

Great to find Jerry still kicking and full of it. Thanks again Hyden.

Also sadness that the " ponykegs " and drive-ins and Stratford Manor and the original Coney Island, Crosley Field ect. are gone.
