Many of the misconceptions help keep the Twin Cities area a hidden gem. I've also lived in Charlotte and Denver and I must say, the Twin Cities area is definitely in a different league.

Detroit MSA - 200,856B
Minneapolis MSA - 193,947B

Charlotte MSA - 118,350B

My issues was with the listing of richest cities in the world which left out Charlotte, probably a few other cities as well. But this isn't about Charlotte, but the midwest.

Even though I still say Detroit is the second city of the mid-west, I would rather live in Minneapolis and find it to be more aethetically appealing.

For those thinking of moving here:

We are nothing but hicks up here. No one can go outside for five months. There is still snow on the ground in July. Minneapolis is full of nothing but abandoned rust belt factories. Everybody will look at you wierd if you don't have an extremelly thick accent and weren't born here. AVOID THE TWIN CITIES AT ALL COST!

I agree about Charlotte, but definitely not Denver (which has a larger metro population that the Twin Cities). The Twin Cities are not in a different league than Denver. They're equal, with Denver slightly ahead, if anything. Same tier as other cities like Seattle and Phoenix.

Denver is not larger than Minneapolis in any way except city limits population. Re-check your numbers.

Minnesota is just a cold forrest with mosquitos in the summer and nothing to do from September to May. It rains a lot and it snows a lot and it doesnt get above 10 degrees for months at a time. We have the weirdest accents and wear sweaters and love hockey and ice fishing and eating hot dishes. Polka music is huge, as is lutafisk and VFW halls.

It's okay fellas, I don't think you have to convince people to stay away from MN, it does that on its own and people will never come here in droves like sunbelt cities, for example. However, if you would like to visit or relocate here you are more than welcome!

What steel mills? I'm sure there were some, but the mills in the Twin Cities were based off of flour and surpassed Buffalo in terms of production eventually. Buffalo had both as well.
