However, I can see Orlando and Tampa merging in this new scenario. The corridor on I-4 gets more developed as the years pass.
It seems Orlando according to them is going to merge with Ocala. Yep Ocala. Not Tampa, Not Daytona, Not Lakeland. Ocala. FAIL

I think its going to first solidify the merge of Tampa Bay Area and Sarasota and then shortly after that Orlando and Tampa will connect. I don't even know what happened today with the high speed rail deadline, I should go check the news real quick.

ah makes sense - the one thing i always found interesting about Miami is that it is the Only large MSA in the US where the UA and MSA numbers matched exactly - form that perspective it is the only fully developed MSA

They might as well go on ahead and combine Chicago and Milwaukee if they are going to combine Philadelphia and New York.

Miami probably stretched to Port Saint Lucie and Fort Pierce.

Well, the MSA consists of only 3 counties and, of those counties, only a tiny portion is even occupied since the rest is swampland. People who have never been to Miami can't always get their heads around that reality. We won't be able to ever-expand our MSA ala Altanta, Dallas, Houston, etc because we have hard fast limits to development. In the end, it's better for Miami to not sprawl forever.
