The ironic part is that if NorCal ALONE were a state, it would STILL have more Indians than New York State and New Jersey.

*NOTE: Other Asian data broken down is only available for a few states right now, amongst them are CA but not NJ or NY, so its consolidated for now

since my thread was closed....ill be nicer here!

go ny + nj! see, when u compare places of like sizes, then the comparison is a lot closer. however most asians in NY+NJ live in or around nyc, while in socal and norcal they're spread around. thats why i think ny+nj wins in this comparison; more things in a smaller size.

i voted for new york

thats fine. people whove been to ny/nj and lived here know the truth. california, i admit, is the historical gateway for asians, but nowadays, its less so. new york has once and always been the historical gateway to the whole world, including asia.

ny's chinatown dates back to 1858. south asians have been here since the british came here. so its not like we are lacking in asian american history either.

And that truth is that California wins over NY, hands-down. Which is, indeed, why CA winning how many times over in this poll?

The fact that CA as a whole has double the number of Asians than NY and NJ combined makes it pretty obvious, especially since you're the one who insists that percentages mean nothing and only the hard numbers matter.

...and nearly all of them came through Angel Island in San Francisco before heading on their way to New York. San Francisco's Chinatown is older (1848), and was the first Chinatown in the US.

No, but it still pales in comparison to CA's Asian-American history.

ya but thats only cuz cali is way bigger than ny and nj combined. if you break down ca into norcal and socal, the comparison is more fair. ny and nj have the same amount of asians as those two broken apart. even with that, norcal is still way larger than ny and nj combined, so if you made norcal into ny and nj's size, ny+nj would most likely win.

wow, 10 years isnt very large in the bigger scheme of things. nowadays, nyc has more chinese people than sf. thats what affects my life way more.

but in the larger scheme of american history, ny + nj wins because dignitaries from all around the world have always flocked to nyc ever since the us was born including those from asia.

You are totally beating a dead horse. The reality is that Asians have a way bigger impact on the culture in California then New York.

Look at the stats listed earlier.

NY/NJ: 2,146,470 Asian alone
Norcal: 2,258,626 Asian alone
Socal: 2,602,381 Asian alone

So, we still win over NY and NJ combined, even if it's broken down into North and South regions.

But it's still older.

No one else really cares how it affects your life. You also said in the other thread that Southeast Asians "don't count." Care to explain why?

That's reeeeeally, really grasping there, man... furthermore, it has nothing to do with this discussion.

Yeah, the horse has been beaten to a mushy pulp... I'm not continuing this one. You can't win an argument with a brick wall!

...barely. and with that, most of those 2 million are near nyc, while they are spread out all over norcal/socal. and asians are growing faster in ny/nj than in norcal/socal. thats an empirical fact.

cuz filipinos are barely asian (they're more like pacific islander or hispanic than what most people consider 'asian' like chinese, japanese, korean), vietnamese are just a subset of east asians (which are more plentiful in ny to begin with) and the rest of southeast asia isnt where power in asia is. really, most of asia is in east and south asia, which are plentiful in ny in equal numbers. in cali, there are barely any south asians, which doesnt make it truly representative of asia.

ny has it all in terms of asians, latins, africans, europeans, etc. etc.
