Southern California has the largest population of nearly every single ethnic group from southeast Asia: Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Filipino, Cambodian. Statistically and empirically, it's the strongest asian immigrant region of the country.

Both the bay area and tri-state have a large population of Chinese, but even those populations are not more than in southern California.

It's curious why people would vote the 3-state area that doesn't even have a Little Tokyo, Little Saigon, Thai Town or Filipino Town, over a place that has it's two biggest public universities at 40% and 53% asian (UCLA and UCI).

Both San Francisco and NYC have a large population of Chinese, but even those populations are not more than in southern California.

The Bay Area is also a major entry point for all of the above groups. The Filipino presence cannot be understated, nor can the Vietnamese, Japanese Cambodian, Chinese, etc. Contrary to popular belief, the Bay Area asian population is just as diverse as the one in LA.
