I don't disagree. I too have a preference for more lush and cool colored settings.

Some of these Texas landscapes do look rather thirsty, but beautiful nonetheless.

Having lived in both, it's not even close---the Northeast is beautiful. Nothing can beat a New England Fall in my mind.

Marshland is different up north, but it's there. Especially around the northern Finger Lakes and wide valleys.

Upstate NY does have plains. The Ontario plains. Where the Appalachian hills end the Ontario plains begin.

CS - Seems you know the NE well. There are estuaries all up and down the coast, so of course, the region has marshes and even swamps, including this one with in Delaware with bald cypress stands:

While some differences to a warer swamp the pine barrens on the whole has a ton of different aspects. Many I believe would be surprised b the diversity actually

Also, the eco systme is actually one of the most unique in the world, the one million acres was thr worlds first international eco preserve right smack in the middle of 55 million people within ~ 3 hours.

Actually, parts of Syracuse used to be Swampland and we have Cicero Swamp about 10 miles north of Syracuse. Cookie Skoon is right about the Flatland near the Great Lakes. Cicero Swamp Wildlife Management Area Map - NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation
