Still clinging to this weak corporate suit argument.
Meanwhile, the actual creative work takes place largely in Los Angeles. From screenplay, to casting, to editing.
As for NYC's on-screen appearances--it is generally just a backdrop in most of the films/shows it appears in. Claiming it as NYC culture would be like calling "Saving Private Ryan" a French film.
You say this as if it's a bad thing to be a corporate headquarters. The budget checks are written in NYC.
Yes more "work" is done in LA and more films are shot in LA. LA even has the edge on total workers but that's a gap that's quickly closing.
Let's stop pretending Chandler that NYC is Albuquerque. NYC is a very expensive place to film movies. Compared to anywhere, even LA. So some movies and shows are filmed in LA instead, it's more practical and it's cheaper that way. That doesn't take away that NYC is just as popular of a backdrop and lifestyle depiction as LA. That's the bottom line. They're co-capitals of American Cinema.
It's kind of the way a teenager, for the most part, has free reign to decorate his room in any way he sees fit. But Daddy ultimately has the final say.
Yeah, because the CEO of Time Warner, sitting in some office in NYC, can just decide he wants to make a movie about his nut sack one day without repercussions. He doesn't have stockholders to answer to or anything. (x100)

Is that Daddy also dependent on the teenager for his paycheck? Pretty sure the Dad would be finanically better off w/o a teenager, not the case with your analogy. Again, another awful example.

I see the NYC posters are still clinging to the "well the conglomerate CEOs live in New York..." argument ever after it was debunked early on in the thread. Virtually all of the studios (where the real magic happens) are headquartered in Los Angeles, even the ones that aren't owned by the conglomerates like DreamWorks and Lion's Gate. End of story.

Well, the problem really has nothing to do with the thread at all.
The problem comes down to a few posters who identify so strongly with their city that their personal egos get hurt whenever someone even SUGGESTS their city might not be #1 in a certain criteria.
This goes not only for NYC and LA posters, but almost every single wacky type of booster on this site. Whenever the criteria clearly does not apply to them, it just gets relegated to "well, it doesn't matter" even though NO ONE is forcing them to look at the thread.
Of the Big 6, only Disney. Outside the Big 6, they have smaller independent studios but those exist in all major film cities. NYC's the headquarters of 5 of the Big 6. 73.2% of all of Hollywood is based in NYC.
The Big Six conglomerates are Viacom, Time Warner, Disney, Sony, News Corporation, and NBC Universal.
Viacom (and CBS corporation for that matter) are owned by National Amusements, a company headquartered in Dedham, Massachussetts.
Sony Corporation of America is owned by Sony, headquartered in Tokyo.
NBC Universal is owned by Comcast/GE with Comcast having 51% (IE a controlling interest) and GE having 49%. Comcast is headquartered in Philadelphia.
So really for the big six it's one for L.A., one for Tokyo, one for Dedham, Massachusetts, half for Philadelphia, and two and a half for New York City. LMAO

And a big thank you from America for being the home of News Corps. That is one company that has had a real positive impact on America
