Not really. If you look at all of those lists that people post, you find NYC at the top of nearly all of them. So why wouldn't someone say "NYC" if asked about the one city that defines everything a city is or should be? That's not unreasonable. It's no different than someone saying Michael Jordan defines the sport of basketball.
Well I wouldn't expect you to actually be able to see or recognize that attitude so I guess we'll just have to disagree on that one too. Just because NYC is one of the world's leading cities doesn't mean everyone thinks it what a city is or should be. Even in the US some people prefer cities like SF or Chicago over NYC for a variety of reasons. Just as it's not hard to imagine why others might prefer a city like London or Paris over NYC, well at least to those that don't have the "Center of the Universe" mentality like yourself.

If the topic of examples of urbanity and the associated lifestyle came up in London, Paris, Tokyo, Sao Paolo, etc.. I don't see why someone would start talking about NYC instead of their own immediate surroundings which exemplify that subject just as well as NYC.

If believing the rest of the world only talks about NYC when it comes to all things urban gets you through the day then have had it as I'm not really interested in continuing this circular debate anymore.

New York wins (again)

Cali boosters get feelings hurt

So they start a thread like this: https://www.city-data.com/forum/city-...st-cities.html

That thread has nothing to do with a reaction to NYC or a NYC thread but rather someone just boasting about their hometown. Pretty awful example that does nothing to prove your point there. Did you even read the thread or just search "Cockiest cities"? Because there are other threads that would have been a way better example to prove your point.

The "only" city? No. The first city? Likely.

I guess I'm too busy being superior to recognize it.

Preference has nothing to do with it. I prefer Rasheed Wallace as a basketball player. But there's no doubt that Michael Jordan is the basketball player. NYC is the world's bona fide "city" and not even Londoners would argue much with that.

Do you have much family in London?

I remember that thread very well. It was indeed a reaction prompted by an LA/NYC comparison. You can't detect that from reading the thread alone.

.

But of course - he hails from a great hoops town though would probably say Wilt or Kobe are better even for those from Philly

On the topic NYC and LA or undoubtably the two largest cultural exporters of the US given the medium one does better than the other and vice versa

No he created that thread to explain himself as a response to someone back east making an agenda driven account to bash a post he made in the LA forum.

If you think the guy that posts gay porn on these threads is a good representative of California posters... Then I don't know what to say.

Well you hear arguments for Kobe and LeBron nowadays but yes MJ is recognized as being the greatest of all time by most. But when people talk about the qualities that make a great bball player Kobe, LeBron, and others certainly enter the conversation, many times before MJ does. Same with NYC.

Yes I know you do, again something I and others clearly don't agree with so I'm not sure what else there is to say about it. But like I already said, whatever gets you through the day....

And I thought CA was more accepting of diverse view points

And to the above at least logo based Jerry West would be the image of the NBA
